Is this worthy of a purple heart?

Working nights can sure bring on some strange discussions.....
We have been watching CNN at work since the Iraq conflict started.

Tonight CNN had on a Sgt talking to his wife via video phone and he mentioned that he had a tooth knocked out by concussion from enemy artillery.

The question this raised is if this warrants a purple heart.

Don't read too much into this please, this is not intended to be too serious nor to insult/discredit anyone who has recieved the purple heart.

Also, 12 hours of CNN in one stretch is more than any one person should be subjected to....

Guess that would depend on if a tooth being knocked out is a wound and if enemy fire is battle.

Not trying to be rude, just trying to keep my opinion out for now.

If it is directly caused by enemy fire, yes. If you break your leg diving into a fox hole, no. If broken by flying debries, yes.

BTW: friendly fire is not.

The Purple Heart is awarded to servicepersonnel injured as a result of enemy activity.

Unfortunately, some servicepersonnel have received the Purple Heart for other reasons... to include, self-inflicted wounds, accidents, friendly-fire, violent assault by another American, and other non-combat situations.
