Question about buying new car from another state

See heres the thing...I live in the strictest emissions state in the US.... California. So I have found an amazing deal on a car I would like to buy in OK but people have warned me to check wether its emissions will pass in CA. How do I know?? Its a 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T. I would think by now they standardize the cars/trucks for all states. Maybe Im wrong..but before I do anything I really need to know if I can check whether it would pass or not before I buy because I know that it'll cost a crapload to convert.

Thanks

Cal. has a law that cars brought from other states may be smog exempted by way of paying a fee. This is because of issues between cars sold & not sold here, which can never be economicaly converted. Some have completely different engines or engine/transmission combos.

However: I don't know what the fee is, or what years it covers. This may only cover non-residents moving to California, BTW.

You need to contact the DMV. They do have a website, but I don't know if that information is posted, or if so, if it is current.

Well, I can't say what the CA law is, but I know for sure the vehicle's equipped differently. Any emmission-related part will be different. All sensors, processors, fuel, or exhaust related components.

Occasionally, a CA vehicle turns up here in MO needing repair. Since it's a calibrated system, parts have to be ordered. You can't mix & match and expect it to work properly!

This should also factor into your decision, since I'm sure the reverse is true and "49 state" parts would cause delays to cars in CA. It will need repairs eventually!
