Job Description:

Unix System Administration/System Programming
The Production Systems Group (PSG) of the Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is looking to fill one or more full-time Unix system administration/system programming positions. The positions entail a variety of interesting projects, ranging from administration of CITES's production servers to development of new administration tools and procedures. This is a great opportunity to do interesting work in a collaborative environment with other talented Unix, Windows, and Networking professionals.

Areas of responsibility for these positions include:

*Collaborating with CITES professionals to design and deploy systems to deliver robust, secure services

*Developing software and procedures to manage systems efficiently

*Developing system performance and utilization monitoring tools

*Administration and performance tuning of file, web, and mail servers

*Promptly installing performance and security patches




This is a continuous, full-time, twelve month position.

Minimum Education and Work Experience:

Required Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree and at least one year of relevant experience

*Unix system administration experience

*Programming experience in a language such as C, C++, Perl, Java, or shell scripting

*Good communication and customer service skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment

*Strong desire to learn and stay current with new and changing technologies



Skills Desired:

Desirable Qualifications:
*Previous experience administering Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, or Linux systems

*Previous experience developing software to manage or monitor UNIX systems (account management tools, sendmail configurations, system integration or (performance monitoring tools)

*Experience with the use and deployment of security, monitoring, and management tools for UNIX (TCP wrappers, tripwire, process accounting)

*Good documentation skills
