What’s in a name?

Hello, my name is Salah Baker. I am American Born and of English, German Decent, Blond hair, blue eyes, and want to make a point.



It would appear that hate mongers are now using the phone book to harass and threaten based on a name, they don't know me, and have obviously never met me.



I live in the South of a southern State and expect that there are some prejudices based on a lack of knowledge, but the idea of picking my name from a phone book and calling my wife with the “ go home “ statement has me appalled.



Are we that assinine? Has the American People grouped me with a terrorist faction? When did we sink so low that a man and his family are threatened based on a name?



Blind rage and unthinking people appear to have a monopoly at this time, and we need to think about our actions.
I am not opposed to the war in any way, nor do I feel that Saddam Hussein should keep ruling Iraq in a “Stalinesque” manner.



I now have to worry about my young son and wife tonight.

Will someone come and Kill them while we sleep? Will they start my house on fire?

Sorry to hear this, Sal. It's truly a sad commentary on the human race to resort to using the phone to spread terror to people they do not even know. That's exactly what they are doing, using terror tactics. I hope you have already reported this to the FBI and telephone company to start tracking.

Sorry to read about your plight. I've had my telephone number unlisted and unsolicited for many years just for that reason. I think it's an extra $4-5 a month. Cheap insurance for your privacy and peace of mind.

Just think how the Middle Eastern people living here feel when they are singled out by traffic cops, airport checkers, FBI and so on simly based on their nationality or appearance.

As Socalgal says these are the irrational prejudices of an ignorant people.

Phone harassment is a bit hard subject. When does it became a crime? You cannot threaten other peoples lives, or harass their every day life. But if, two hundred different people call one with statement 'go home' I don't think they can be prosecuted because of that...

This is a problem all over, and it is a problem of fear and poor education. If people teach their kids to fear and hate on the basis of some thin prejudice, they're gonna do so until someone teaches them otherwise. Unfortunately, some folks will only learn the hard way, and many never learn.

I used to live in the "bible belt" myself. I don't anymore. But it doesn't really matter. I've lived in nine different states, and twenty different towns, from coast to coast and border to border.

You see this problem everywhere: little people with little frightened minds who must do something; but they can't think of something intelligent to do, and end up doing something hateful.

I have "Caller ID" on my home phone, and I don't answer strange calls at all. After all, my phone is for my convenience, not someone elses.

True...I would add to that, though, is that such people are cowardly. That's why they utilize such an anonymous communication method.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry overmuch. If this little creep had anything at all going on, he wouldn't be calling you on your telephone.
