What constitutes "humiliating" a POW?

An interesting discussion of this on the BBC.

The photo in the linky was shown multip[le times on CNN and FOX--Iraqi POWs being asked to walk with hands on their heads in a line flanked by armed troops. This is a clear disregard, indeed an arrogant disregard for the Geneve Convention.

After this Bush has the audacity to say US POWs are shown on TV.

Bush: First put your house in order before accusing others.

Actually the treatment of the prisoners is what is going to be the problem. The interviews are in a grey area. State run TV iraq TV has not aired these interviews AFAIK. An independent news organization has broadcast them.

Same applies to the US troops.

Now the fact that state run news did the interviews may come into question as Iraq TV logo was on the mike.

But the airing of footage of dead and prisoners is not illegal. It is illegal for the state to use it as propaganda.

Al jezeerah can show the propaganda as much as they want to achive their ends.

So in closing State may not air it

but independent news may.

There does seem to be a very fine line between pictures of Iraqi POWs and pictures of US POWs. I think the difference here is that the coalition newsies showed lines of POWs from a distance whereas the Iraqis had individual soldiers speaking on TV. I don't recall seeing any Iraqi POWs forced to say their names and hometowns on TV.

Remember this? (Oh yeah, I forget: Lindh was an "enemy combatant", not a POW, so rules don't apply.)

Oh, yeah, right.

Iraqi's take PoWs.

US Military takes Enemy Combatants. And as we all know Enemy Combatants don't fall under the purview of the Geneve Convention.

Which army was the al Qaeda detainees a member of? AFAIK the Geneva Convention relates to war between nations. They were terrorists. Terrorists don't abide by the conventions of war.
