HTML books
I guess you could say im pretty out of touch with building websites, i dont even know how to start html, so i went to b & n to pick up a book. i was a little confused, there were books that said html, and html 4.0 . (What is the difference between them?) Anyway, i pick up a dumbbies book on how to build webpages, and like the first thing it says in chapter 3 is how you dont need html because of things like geocities page creater, wtf?? that doesnt tell you crap on how to build a webpage Anyway, i picked up this book http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...21130073&itm=2
I hope this is a good book to start out with, but should i have gotten something like this instead? http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...01354934&itm=1
or should i start out basic and then move to the other stuff

Are you set on writing HTML from scratch, or would an editor be a good suggestion? Here are some free ones
Writing HTML from scratch is very frustrating IMO, although I am finally getting the hang of it. This looks good as a tutorial.
Good luck

so you mean that i just type and it translates? I have been writting from scratch, and this is what i have after 2 hours http://www.geocities.com/shawshank62/home.html
The only thing that is really pi$$ing me off is i want to, when the side links are clicked, for the page to show up in the space where my intro is, instead of just opening a new browser. What do i have to do to make it do that?

I think you have to have (target="main") or what ever the frame calls the main frame.

<html>
<head>
<title>links</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="000000">
<body text=#FFFFFF>
<body link=#FFFFFF>
<body vlink=#0561A5>
<body alink=#00782B>
<font size=4>
<p><a href="http://geocities.com/shawshank62/news.html"
onclick="http://www.geocities.com/shawshank62/links.html'"
target="otherframe">News</a>
<p><a href="http://geocities.com/shawshank62/specs.html"
onclick="http://www.geocities.com/shawshank62/links.html'"
target="otherframe">Components</a>
</body>
</html>
That is my html, and i tried changing it to "main" but the same thing happened. Am i using the correct stuff, or is there some other html formula thing i should use?
