Best Final Fantasy

ok, best final fantasy.. and i mean console..
its sad.. but i think the days of final fantasy being the best series out there are over.. x2, xi, xii.. they look like crap.. i mean.. i am hopefull that someone will save it.. but right now.. it looks bad..

so let me sum up my ff history: the first final fantasy i played, was also my first psx game.. it was 7.. at the time, i was not even sure what game it was.. just that i liked the snowboarding..
later, i got the game.. played/finished it.. and some others.. 4,6,7,8,9,10... all different.. all good.. but some better then others.. 4 and 6 are not usually talked about as much as they should.. as they are better then most current games out there.. they are from a time when you needed a good game to sell games.. 7 took me the longest.. roughly 70 hours.. but it was pretty much my first psx game.. 8 was next,... sadly, it was not as good as it could have been.. it lacked in what ff's should revolve around.. story.. 6 next.. it was one of the greats.. as was 4.. then i played 9.. it was a great game.. 10.. the most recent.. was just terrible.. not the game itself perhaps.. but what it should have been, it was not.. there was no over world.. something that made ff stand out.. it lacked in many other areas as well.. graphics are not everything folks..
from best to worst.. all things considered.. here is my list:
6: The only ff i have replayed.. though i may play 7 again in the near future
7: Very good.. the materia system was perhaps the best magic system of all of them
4: Great.. No other ff went to the moon
9: Good story, excellent side quests
10: An ending that nearly saved the game
8: Wheres the beef?

-notes: 5 is not welcome here
-notes: ct is awesome too but this is an ff thread

I'm playing FF X at the moment on the PS2. I like it, especially the skill sphere system. It does seem very linear though, especially with all the cut scenes.

My first one was FF VII, and like you, that game just blew me away, the look, the scale, the story; a real epic. The characters were great too. Definitely the better of the two I have played. There were some incidental things that annoyed me though, like chocobo-breeding. If I hadn't looked at a FAQ, I'd never have worked out the golden chocobo. I have better things to do with my life

I looked at the earlier SNES ones on an emulator, and well, I thought they sucked I think FF VII was the first one that they put the effort into for a non-Japanese audience, and it shows.

Well, I've seen 7,8,9, and played/owned/beat 10. I thought 10 was an awesome experience. Granted, that I only played one of them makes me biased. I've noticed that the storyline in most of the FF's I've seen seem to revolve around saving the planet in one fashion or the other. Usually has some kind of theme based around some evil spoiling the planet, not necessarily save the planet from destruction from some crazed lunatic with a gigantic bomb/gun/whatever.

I'm really interested in seeing/playing X2 simply because no other FF has had a true sequel. I guess most FF purists have a problem when a game title sways from center...look at the comments people made about the new Legend of Zelda look. Personally, I think that game is going to be awesome and I'd buy a gamecube just to play it.

The worst FF experience, IMHO was the movie.
