I'm sure it's a great reinforcement to our troops to know that a least some of the people in Iraq do appreciate them being there. For the soldiers, I'm sure this does make it all worthwhile

At Home

Saddam and his regime tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people. Some reports say he used chemical weapons to murder 1.5 million Kurds and Shias, most of them women and children. Reports of rape rooms. Reports of him shredding people alive. How could the majority of the Iraqi people not be happy for their freedom from this evil, sadistic monster?

Just one article:
Quote:
Types of torture include: eye gouging, hand-piercing with an electric drill, pouring acid into open wounds, electric shock (mainly to genitals, ears, tongues and fingers), sexual abuse (which includes taking broken glass bottles and placing them in victims’ anuses) and falaqa (beating victims’ soles with a cable).

Other physical tortures include extinguishing cigarettes on the victims’ body, extraction of fingernails or toenails, beatings, mock executions and acid baths – this is just if you’re a male.

Women are subjected to the same treatment and are also subjected to being raped repeatedly. One of Saddam’s recent methods of torture is forcing male family members to watch female family members being raped.
Nice guy we want to do away with, eh?

Even many his own soldiers don't want to fight for him. 8,000 of his military have already surrendered en masse.

Yes, it was heart-filling watching that footage of the Iraqi man hitting Saddam's picture... other Iraqi people hugging and laughing with our soldiers.... upon seeing that it just felt like we are doing the right thing. And yes, of course it makes it worthwhile.

Not to mention that the U.S., Iraq's neighbors and the world will be safer from this human monster.

Sympathies to the families and the utmost gratitude to the brave soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in their defense for our countries' safety and freedom. You - and all the rest of our military men and women - are our true heroes in a time when the word is overused.

We make war that we may live in peace.

it is said that some of the troops who have even fought say that they fought for fear that saddam is still alive. Fear of not fighting is what motivates, not al but many.

One reason though we many not see jubilation in Baghdad is that the ruling class has not had such a bad time of it. Only the lowly kurds to the north and the shias to the south are with impunity abused. Also having technology in the big cities you will find that they probably are able to see the propaganda machine we saw last night.

With the information minister twisting facts to the point of humor. Speaking of how they have repulsed every attack and how "5 of our tanks are burning and smoking and burning and on fire and smoking and burning" Basically saying in the face of overwhelming information that they were in control of cities and objective we clearely had achived. Imagine the spin they would put on a few thousand kurds killed in the north.

The long and short of it is that the majority class probably has not been as uniformly brutalized as the minority classes. They might well still support their glorious leader.

This is the reason I just don't understand the Anti war protesters saying we are trading blood for oil.
Is this an exaggeration? Maybe. Is some of this going on? Certainly. Whether or not it's on the scale some say is uncertain. But didn't we learn what turning your back could lead to in Nazi Germany? And do not rebut this with well why don't we save this country or that. Because we are unable to intervene in all doesn't negate the good we can do. At least the Iraqi people are in an area that the world is interested in saving so they might be saved too.
