Car warranties
Alright we all know dodge neons are not the most reliable car out on the road. I have one and its a Dodge Neon r/t 99 with 57,578 miles on it and so far so good I have not had any serious problems with it (it had minor window problems and other little things that were covered under the warranty fixed and working well). I have the option to purchase an extended warranty for $1,000 to extend my coverage bumper to bumper up to 100,000 miles outside of dodge with a company who handles warranties. Im curious if any members have bought these warranties and actually had great success with them. I’m very interested in the warranty as I am planning to keep the car for awhile as im a poor college student
Thanks
Jason

Well I have absolutely no experience with warranties, so far I didn't buy a car still on warranty. My newest is 14 years old and I've had it for 8 years.
But, knowing Dodge's reputation and based on friends' experience with them, an extended warranty may be very handy.
Carefully read the warranty paper, I would be very cautious with a 3rd party warranty company.

yes read it carefully , u will be suprised what isn't covered in them . is the car paid for ? are you able to get a new car? i am not saying the neon is a bad car , even bad cars have good ones mixed in but if you are that worried why not get rid of it and get a newer car ? or is that outta the question .

I've worked at a Ford dealer all my life - I'd strongly recommend not getting a 3rd party warranty.
It may sound great on paper, but in practice it's another story. Some of them may be great, I can't say for ALL, but most are a major pain.
Expect delays - they usually have to authorize every little thing individually. For example, let's say a major repair's in progress & something additional is found neccessary. Job just came to a grinding halt while they spend a day or two playing with paperwork. Meanwhile, the technician has worked on twenty other cars w/o using his lift which is tied up with your car - imagine how utterly thrilled he is to slam that thing back together & roll it...think this might affect the quality of the job just a tad???
And warranty co's often nickel-and-dime a job to death, too.
Remmeber, whenever you sign a repair order that says "repair as per XYZ co" you are no longer the paying customer - XYZ co is. But they get to hide behind the repair shop who has to deal with the owner & explain all the delays...
Compare this to a manufacturer's warranty, were the dealership is the warranty agent & determines coverage on the spot, and is guaranteed payment by the manufacturer....
Brings up the subject - who will honor this co's policy? Our service dept has refused to deal with some co's...
And a grand for what comes to 40K miles coverage seems steep. You've had no major problems so far, just keep up the maintenance & bank the money just in case - if nothing major ever happens, you've got a downpayment on the next one...
If you're still interested, then:
Get a specific list of covered components. They may say B-to-B, but I'll bet there's a long list of non-covered items.
Ask who honors it, then go to a couple places & ask their advise. If they welcome it with open arms it may be OK.
