Republican Guard on the verge of surrendering !

Just got home from work and tuned into Fox news and the latest report has the Republican Guard is thinking hard about quitting SaDamn and saving themselves from destruction. The Marines have landed and the Army expeditionary forces have entered Iraq and are on the move. The shock and awe is on hold until we see who is going to surrender and if we get SaDamn and his henchmen. Things are looking for our troops and the Common man in Iraq. I hope to God that these guys have the sense to give up and allow a peaceful change of regeim.

I doubt it'd be that easy. We'd be lucky if it were that easy.

yes i hope it is true - i cant understand why he is even bothering to resist, it will only cost more death, misery, and suffering, and the out come can only be defeat.

But i fear what will come after Iraq has fallen, it will be the
Terrorists turn then, and that war will have no end in the foreseeable future

The Iraqi troops will probably surrender in small units and be more inclined to surrender during heavy combat (ie when they are taking heavy losses), so I dont think that they will be fighting to the death.

But sadly I think that a large scale surrender is unlikely.

General Myers thinks otherwise. On TV and radio he said the worst is yet to come. Things are gonna get a lot worse in Baghdad.

It is very hard to predict the course and outcome of a war.

This could bog down to a protracted conflict and experience (Vietnam) has shown the unwillingness of the US public to take casualties.

On any given day, something devistating to US war plans can happen....friendly fire...disease...attacks by weapons the Iraquis "don't have" etc.

War is unpredictable.

Logistics is more favorable to a defense of Iraq in a ground war. Recall how the Russians pulled the French into an extended line in "War and Peace". The advantage Iraq has is economy of lines.

I suspect that eventually the City of Baghdad will be in flames. And not necessarily by US.

Remember Jim Jones and Jonestown in Guiana. Saddam is right up there. And so are his henchmen/kin.
