I found out the bad news Monday morning when my supervisor called me in and had another guy in the office (probably as a witness to any potential "violence"). I was then informed by my supervisor that he was "releasing me from employment". It was 7 days short of my 6-month probation. I had visions of putting my home on the market, and moving back in with my parents. I asked him what I had done wrong (never had any employee evaluations) but he said he can't say, to talk to HR.
Luckily, since I have a civil service job, and I passed probation in my previous position, I was told to go back to my old boss in my old department! So I get to be rid of a horrible job with a terrible co-worker. I take a $2/hr pay cut and have to face my old peers. And, I get to keep the home!
I feel like I just got out of jail! I guess I'll always wonder what I did wrong, but I'm told that HR doesn't have to tell me. I can only think of 5 things I did wrong (could've been a combo of):
1. Got injured twice (very physical job)
2. Mentioned the department in a newspaper (and bragged to my co-workers about it)

3. Spent money w/o asking ahead of time, especially for items that were Union rights like safety glasses (supervisor was a real tight-wad), bought biz cards, earned 1 hr OT, etc
4. They fully intended to use me, then toss me out like yesterday's paper.
5. Co-worker was a real jack-@ss to work under (had lots of nasty arguments; made me do all the garbage work)
6. Memory wasn't great (physical job that doesn't require a lot of thinking)
Oh well, that job only took about 1-2 months to master w/ no new learning skills. Staying there would've kept me in the same position for a long time. My old office has lots to learn, and pays for OT, but I take a $2/hr pay cut and drop down one level to my old position.
I know I'm lucky to still have a job, but did I deserve this?
