30 Named Partners in 'Coalition of the Willing'

Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. The State Department listed Japan as available for "post-conflict" support.

No Arab countries; Turkey is included! Australia is sending 100 soldiers. Out of about 400,000. Poland is sending a few. For almost all the rest, it's "moral" and "logistical" support only.

I'd label it "Coalition of the Coerced"-more accurate.

Not necessarily true. British-trained units from the UAE and Oman are in Kuwait to "guarantee her security".

That also means they are watching our backs

Make that 2,000.

And then there's the "Coalition of the Too Chicken" to speak up publicly that will announce their support when it's safe to do so.

Sounds like Turkey may be bought/bribed (or better yet, they are holding their support ransom), and there are quite a few poor countries that conceivably lined up in order not to be placed on the US's $#!+ list, but Italy? Denmark? Netherlands? Spain? UK? Japan? Australia? I'd say there are quite a few on the list of their own free will. Maybe it's just a strong anti-American sentiment that leads people to believe they were coerced or bought. And I bet some on the silent support list are Arab nations.

Perhaps the people who are against war with Iraq are simply making a statement not to support The United States of America.

It does seem like the people with the most grudge against the US are the most vocal against the war.

France was definitely making a bid for power with their pay offs. Being against the war is one thing but buying people to your position is a pretty extreme stance when a conflict does not directly affect you. It is like going to another town and offering to pay for their vote on a covenent change to ban the building of sheds. If you did it in your town it would make sense but to go elsewhere and request it is strange.

Bush is strange.

Yes (strange) un-common for a president to have the guts to press on against all odds and stick to his beliefs in the face of adversity .
