Dry Skin - Hot Showers?

I've recently started noticing that after I get out of the shower, the skin on my face will be extremely dry. To a point where the skin around my mouth is actually sore when I move my lips.

Could this be because I take HOT showers? Would taking warm / luke-warm showers solve the dry skin issue? Someone suggested I add salt to my water softening system, which I did, but I didn't notice any difference.

How dry is it there? During the winter a lot of people have problems with their skin. My wife is always going on about how long baths will dry out the skin. While I havent had any problems, she has and she uses a moisturizing cream after her shower. Also remember when drying - dont rub, you should pat dry and allow the rest of the moisture to evaporate from your skin.

I don't know about hot showers causing dry skin, but I do have psoriasis and have had it off and on since I was a kid. Even when it is in remission, I feel that way every time I get out of the shower. My skin is so tight that I can feel it stretched across my face. I use a moisturizing cream (spec. Eucerin) every time I get out of the shower.

Very hot showers indeed can cause or aggravate skin dryiness, especially in combination with soap which can remove the skin lipids. Excessive scrubbing with washclothes will further aggravate dry skin.

Instead, use moisturizing or soap-free products, and don't set water too hot. Moisturize your skin immediately after your shower with a non-alcohol based, intensive lotion and/or body oil while skin is still moist. Apply rich lotion as needed throughout your day.

People think scrubbing hard in the shower will remove dead skin cells... not true. The skin must be soaked first and this means a bath. After soaking in a warm, oil bath, or otherwise hydrating the skin as in a steamroom, scrub mildly with a loofah or washcloth, then shower / rinse afterwards. You can also add salt (use kosher salt) or sugar in a 2:1 ratio of body wash for your body scrub, or there are prepared body scrubs on the market.

You could also check your environment for dry air and humidify if necessary.

Your skin will be soft and smooth as a baby's butt in no time

(Trust me you macho guys, dry, rough skin on men isn't sexy so use the lotion to feel good )

Don't shower for a month. Just wash the stinky area's and let your skin's natural beauty come through.

Detritus,

Have you heard of zims crack cream? I think that works on psoriasis. They claim that it is the holy grail of cracking skin. I do not suffer from any skin disorders but I have heard alot about that junk on the radio.

For some reason - it just seems to be a certain part of my face - on each side. *shrug*

I bought some Neutrogena moisturizer - problem solved..

Heard of it but haven't tried it, when your skin is as dry as mine and you fine something that works you stick with it and try not to change. Thanks for the tip though...
