Very hot showers indeed can cause or aggravate skin dryiness, especially in combination with soap which can remove the skin lipids. Excessive scrubbing with washclothes will further aggravate dry skin.
Instead, use moisturizing or soap-free products, and don't set water too hot. Moisturize your skin immediately after your shower with a non-alcohol based, intensive lotion and/or body oil while skin is still moist. Apply rich lotion as needed throughout your day.
People think scrubbing hard in the shower will remove dead skin cells... not true. The skin must be soaked first and this means a bath. After soaking in a warm, oil bath, or otherwise hydrating the skin as in a steamroom, scrub mildly with a loofah or washcloth, then shower / rinse afterwards. You can also add salt (use kosher salt) or sugar in a 2:1 ratio of body wash for your body scrub, or there are prepared body scrubs on the market.
You could also check your environment for dry air and humidify if necessary.
Your skin will be soft and smooth as a baby's butt in no time
(Trust me you macho guys, dry, rough skin on men isn't sexy so use the lotion to feel good
