Attention all TechIMO-ers

Because I have been "cut-off" from my Internet Provider for now (Excite@Home has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and has decided to pull the plug on my provider's, AT&T Broadband's contract) and because AT&T probably has no choice but to transition my account onto AT&T Broadband's "native" Cable Internet Network, I won't be able to post too many messages in this Forum until I have Net Access at my house once again. This outage is supposed to last between 14 to 30 days, depending on the decision of the Bankruptcy Court (Excite@Home has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on September 28th), and if neither the cable companies (AT&T Broadband, Cox Cable, and Comcast) can reach an agreement to repay Excite@Home's outstanding balance of $1.5 Million, my High-Speed Cable Internet Provider (AT&T Broadband, since I'm residing in Illinois) will have to shift my Cable Internet Account to AT&T's native Cable Internet Networks to restore my access to the Internet at home.

This means that my posting volume will be rather puny during the outage and hopefully, AT&T will come up to a solution that will restore my Internet Access at home. For now, don't expect any new messages from myself until a "back-in-uptime" message from myself surfaces onto this Social Forum.

I appreciate your concern in this matter.

I just got an E-Mail about a half hour ago from AT&T that their offer to buy was rejected!
That the excite@home web page would no longer be available but they will substitute Yahoo in its place!
They also said that our service would not be interrupted!
I am in Ma. and do not understand why you should be cut off and not me?

This prolly doesn't apply here but....

Here is a tip for an internet junkie trapped when the DSL company goes out of business, but you can sign up with anyone else because the defunk company has to release your phone line..

Note this is not for the fickle or weak of heart, but the true Net Addict.

Change your phone number. Then get a new provider.

Or just get (or use the one you already own) a 56k modem and sign up with BlueLight for $9 a month; no banners (but uses a 'taskbar' which isn't too bothersome), and unlimited access.

https://isp2.bluelight.com/blisp/servlet/blisp

Since I got cable access and quit ELN DSL (and loosing the free dialup account), BlueLight is (so far) a reliable and inexpensive backup online provider.

Good luck with the switch, Mark

Lost mine this morning too. I'm in Colorado and very displeased.
My friend in Oklahoma is still able to get online through his cable connection. So as of now, I'm in the same boat as you. I won't be able to surf except over a 56k in my laptop, using juno's crappy service. When I called today though, they told me that it is going to prolly be 7-14 days before I get my service back. They also said I wouldn't be able to keep my current email address. Although on the webpage it says I can???? Whatever, dsl was too slow and expensive compared to @home, so I guess I'll have to be patient.
