VCDs.. are they legal in the US?
Does anyone here happen to know if VCDs of Hollywood movies can be sold legally in the U.S.? I've tried looking on Google, but haven't found much. Just wondering because I've seen a flyer around my campus in which a student (I assume) is offering sales of LOTR: The Twin Towers on VCD format.

*note: No, I'm not planning to buy it at all. I'd rather go to the theater or buy the DVD myself in order to support the film*

vcd's are legal, you just can't sell copyrighted material... lol they guy must be a fool

selling VCD movies is legal as long the movie isnt copyrrighted!

Aye-yay-yay...

VCDs are perfectly legal. You can buy them inmprted from Japan and some US companies make them (usually along the lines of adult 'entertainment'). They were basically the predecessor to DVDs. However, LOTR is not officially on a VCD. Odds are unless he imported them form China, then he burned them. Selling a burned VCD woth copyrighted/patented material is illegal, and it doesnt matter what you think about copyright laws, it should be. When you hear copyright laws and controversy, we are talking about uses of copyrighted material and the length of copyrights.
