You know you live in Sydney when:

1. You make over $100,000 per year and still can't afford a house.

2. You never bother looking at the train/bus timetable because you know the drivers have never seen it either.

3. You order organic fruit and vegies online, but eat out every night anyway.

4. You spend more money on your coffee machine than on your washing machine.

5. You spend $400+ per week for your room in an apartment with stunning harbour/beach views and European appliances; and spend a total of forty hours a week there of which thirty-seven are spent sleeping.

6. You contemplate calling a taxi from your home to where you managed to park your car the night before.

7. You spend thirty minutes in a traffic jam next to a car that has more power going to its speakers than its wheels.

8. You can roll sushi, make pasta and keep your red curry paste recipe under lock and key, but couldn't roast a chicken to save your life.

9. Your taxi driver was a micro-surgeon before he immigrated to Australia.

10. Your co-worker tells you he/she has eight body piercings but none are visible

11. You can't remember... is dope illegal?

12. You've been to more than one baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.

13. You have a very strong opinion on where your coffee beans are grown, and can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.

14. A really great parking space can move you to tears.

15. You are thinking of taking an adult class but you can't decide between yoga, conversational Italian or building your own website.

16. A man in full leather regalia and crotchless chaps gets on the bus and you don't notice.

17. You are genuinely surprised when you meet someone who was actually born in Sydney.

18. Your hairdresser is straight; your plumber is gay, and your Tupperware/Avon lady is a drag queen.

Sydney is Australia's largest city. The above was swiped from OCAU.
Thought it may have some relevance to other big cities around the world.

ChrsR.

You have no idea how many well-educated people are doing jobs outside of their training in NYC.

I don't know if it's because they don't have a grean card, left their Countries without proper documentation of their educational accomplishments and can't verify them, can't pass the NY State Regants Exam in their license area due to limited command of English--although many people from the Indian sub-Continent seem to have a better command of the King's English (the Queen's too ) than NY'ers.

One guy who served me coffee was a Gynocologist from an Arab country, electrical engineers make sandwiches in Deli's,former College professors making more as waiters, etc.

Sydney , I recall ranked very high on some recent Post at TIMOof some Poll and I wondered why higher than Melburne ? NYC was the base of comparision score-wise with 100.

Moral: Never judge a person's education by their job.

That'll be "the cross" then, huh mate?
to my american folk, "the cross" is a reference to Kings Cross, the "red light" district of Sydney.
Although Harry's cafe de wheels, (server of dee-lish-us meat pies) is in very close proxy to the cross, it is worth the visit for the eats. right on Cowpers wharf Rd.

KOP, it's still a bit on the crazy side, but it's toned down a bit from earlier years, I heard that it was a REALLY wild place in the late 60's early 70's..
umm, any stories??
