Homosexual : Heterosexual Ratio

What do you think the percentage of homosexuals (Homosexuals including gays, lesbians and bisexuals) is in the world population? I've heard some pretty crazy numbers, both on the low end and on the high end. I guess it would be up to each individual to express what they think the right number would be.

This thread isn't a place for people to voice outlandish opinions on how they feel about homosexuals. Unfortunately, it would probably just end up in some huge war, and the thread would be closed anyway. I'd like to see some interesting poll results which substantiate opinion.

AGAIN... If you choose to respond in order to justify your vote, go ahead - but PLEASE leave your personal opinion on the issue out of it.

tkop -> The same could be said for like, half of the community posts. While this does touch on a sensitive issue among some, I don't see how the statistical data does anything harmful, unless you consider taking in new information harmful. *shrug*

Overall, certainly less than 4%, probably around 2-3% M, 2% F are homosexual or bisexual

Definitely debatable, though. Most research has been done in countries where homosexuality is "accepted".

Actually TKOP, it can matter a lot. If you are trying to influence safe sexual practices, or planning services for homosexual-specific medical conditions (and there are some, believe me), then this type of information is critical. Health departments have a mandate to provide health services where they are needed: this requires an understanding of population attributes including sexual orientation.

If I live in Laguna Beach Ca I might *think* 60% of my neighbors are gay----If I live in Provo Utah I might *think* 1% of my neighbors are gay---I could be entirely wrong in how I *think* of course ...

You're more than welcome not to vote. You're also more than welcome to ignore the thread. I don't see how being an agitator helps an otherwise intellectually stimulating conversation.

The thread isn't asking whether or not you think your neighbours are gay. It's asking what portion of the worlds population that YOU feel is of a certain persuasion.

I really just do not see a problem with this thread. It's allowing people to redundantly, and without backlash, cast their idea as to a figure that no one truly knows. As long as it stays on topic and people keep their cool, it should be interesting. If it can't follow the route, it can also be closed.
