Math/Algebra Help!

Many great minds here - I was hoping someone could help me with this. We've just started studying Imaginary numbers in Math class, and I've been doing some extra assignments to help boost my knowledge.

Here are two questions which I cannot get... I don't know if I just don't know the proper methodology, or what...

1) If 5x - 2yi = 3y - 3xi - i ,Find x and y
2) If 2x + y + 3yi = 5 - xi ,Find x and y

By the way - I despise Math.

Ask me that question 10 years ago and I'd have been able to answer it. My algebra is a bit rusty I'm afraid.

Really? I've always sucked in Math and Algebra - and always just assumed that Calculus was one step above that .. as far as difficulty is concerned, anyway.

I really hate this stuff. I try and tell myself that everything is just sequential and non-subjective, but jeez... lol...

Thanks for trying anyway guys - I appreciate it.

BobOmega - That's what I've been doing. But I get lost, quickly.

I do know, however, that the answers for Question 1 are;

x = 3
y= -1

Thanks...

I have "Answers: x= 3, y=-1" in my book - so I'm assuming that it was given to the class at some point in time last week.
