When the Axis of Evil is finished, peace may reign!
I Figure, Iran will be over come by pro American revolution and thus more stable. You read the signs: "Yankee go Home (And take me with you)!"
N. Korea...? Who knows. I don't think they will take a shot at us. Depends on China. Let 'em rot!
My point is, this will pretty much be the end of non-friendly nuclear nation-states.
This is a good thing for America and the world, but a bad thing for the One-Worlders, and the Anti Capitalism/Anti-Bush Protest movement, and of course, the terrorists.
Back to the business of living...

Israel -- has nukes.
South Africa -- had nukes, but gave them up (so they say).
Japan -- could have nukes in a week if they wanted them.
Taiwan -- ditto.
Brazil, Argentina -- don't tempt them.

Knowledge and materials for nukes and WOMD are become easier and easier to come by. Even if the US and the rest of the West were able to vanquish all of the nukes and WOMD from the world, the knowledge and materials would still be there for madmen to use.
The US, UK, Israel, Japan and to some extent France are not threats to world peace, but strive through strength to make the world a safer place by scaring the madmen with deterrence or by ousting madmen, like Saddam.
Even if we were to rid hostile, human-relation-nightmare states of their WOMD like North Korea, China, Russia and her former states, Pakistan* and India* (*hostile towards each other), we would still have to contend with the fact that nations and groups want to gain access to WOMD. Even so, ridding these nations of WOMD would be HIGHLY unlikely. Granted the world can take care of small nations such as North Korea and former Soviet states, but China will forever be a threat (or at least a threat until they turn from Communism and become a free nation with elections by the people).
It is doubtful that peace will reign until the Lord comes again. Sad, but a fact of human tendencies.

Well, this is all very well. But put yourself in the position of a non-American.
He thinks the greatest threat is the US. They have too many nukes/WOMD, a very aggressive Administration, a President who's just waiting to go to war.....
It's all a question of perspective.
But, yes, the days of peace are probably over.

Stable means government is in controll and not likely to topple leaving weapons of mass destruction up for grabs
Unstable means government is weak and arms are likely to fall inthe wrong hands.
Crazy leaders appear to be just crazy enough to use them. N. Korea--developing nukes/WOMD (unstable crazy psyco's)
Iran-developing nukes (appear to be stabilizing but still dangerous)
Pakistan--Has nukes/WOMD (unstable as hell)
India--Has nukes/ICMBs/WOMD (stable form of government IMO)
France-Has NukesWOMD (stable but frog sucking surrender monkeys)
UK-Has nukes/WOMD (Stable)
USA-Has Nukes/ICMS/WOMD (Stable)
China-Nukes/WOMD (Mean but stable)
Russia-Nukes/WOMD (unstable)

nobody in there right mind would use a nuclear weapon after what it was shown capable of. I mean the world would be over in a matter of hours.
What people need more of is differing perspectives. I don't think either side understands the other as well as they should. Peace is not ever going to be truely attained. I think a closeness of peace would occure if everyone gave a little in a common goal. If all the countries teamed together to do somethign instead of self distructing. But as it is not many people are ready, or perhaps willing to give up a little bit of there life style for others.

I will throw in a cliche here.
would it have been better to try and join forces with hitler in some collective endeavor or blow him to kingdom come?
Had the US not developed nukes how many people would likely have died in order to close WWII?
Even in the worst case scenario I believe that the world would not end in a nuclear war. Not in hours and not in years. It would just not be what it is today.
The average live span post WWIII would probably be reduced to 20 to 40 years. Women would have kids earlier. Technology would take a few dozen steps backwards. Many life forms would become extinct. But the world would not end. |
