Unclogging a Toilet

I have a clogged toilet here (kids.. gotta love 'em..), and I'm not sure what to do... I've plunged, plunged - and plunged some more, to no avail. I don't have a snake, and wanted to check out some other options before I was forced to go out and buy one.

I saw one website claiming that regular dish soap did the trick a lot of the time, but wanted some other people to back it up - in case it was some sort of prank and I end up with a bathroom full of dish soap bubbles and toilet water..

What do you think?

Shove a garden hose down it and BLAST AWAY!
(Be ready to turn it OFF QUICK!)

You might wanna stick your hand in there and get Barbi out first...

It'll be a cold day in hell before I shove my hand down there.. I don't know whether it's a toy or not, but I'm not taking the risk.

Could always try the bucket of water trick and try to "hydraulically" unstick whatever is stuck ( although if we're talking about the kids dumping toys in there, you'd be best served to get them out before they clog something up further down the drain.

I doubt it a toy...

Good idea, but I don't think that'd work here... When it's flushed, the water already raises to the very top of the bowl (about an inch from a point of overflowing - yay..) and goes down within 30 seconds.

I know how you feel, I have a boy who thinks the bathroom is a play area. Twice he has plugged up their toilet ( a couple years apart). Both times the toilet had to be pulled up and tipped upside down in the tub and "reverse flushed"
The first time I got a ball of soap which was a hair bit bigger than the drain. The second time (recently) it was an empty floss container that got wedged sideways about halfway through.Plus various other trinkets. Spent most of the day trying with a snake and plunger and even had a friend who is a plumber help.
Yaeh, kids. Gotta love 'em
