This seems kinda mean on the surface but isn't this a method of recouping death benefits they pay to the family of the deceased?

I.e. the company is responsible for paying normal death benefits are these excluded from the not a penny thing?

Just curious.

What death benefits are you talking about, Epidemic? I work for the Federal Government, and my insurance (considered to be pretty good) pays one year's salary, rounded up to the next $1000. I get a pension, with survivor's rights for my wife because I elected to get a smaller payout for myself. This guy's family got nil, nada, zip, bupkiss, zilch, niente, rien.

Just kinda makes you wonder why insurance rates are so high!

I work for the State of Ohio and my benefits are pretty much the same as Theo's. This looks like the Corp's are buying polices for their workers (without the workers knowledge) and cashing the polices in upon the workers demise, without paying the families!

Kinda like if a pre-Civil War slave owner bought insurance on his slave. Upon the slave's death the owner would get a payout for lost productivity. The family gets nothing!

Is that the way you see this Theo?

then can I put any one I want on an insurance policy

Personally although I seems to be less than nice.

I can see no reason for it to be illegal. Likewise I can see no benefit to the employee to removing it from existence.

It is kinda cold though.

No, you can't. And it's a good thing, or murder might be even more popular than it is. But an employer can, because he can justify it as protecting an economic asset, even if there's no benefit to the employee.

When your workers are worth more to you dead than alive, what kind of interest do you have in protecting them?

I would have thought they would at least consider paying the funeral costs.

The only thing that stinks is that the money is tax free to the corporations. Can't believe that.

But if someone dies without providing for their family, who's fault is that?
