IRAQ BLOWS UP ABOUT 2,500 OIL OILFIELDS

TEHRAN, March 6, 2003. /from RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Terekhov/. - Iraq has dropped bombs hitting 2,500 oil fields that cover a vast area.

According to the IRNA agency, the bombing near Sharjeh resulted in the explosion of an oil refinery near Kirkuk.

Some oil-bearing wells were mined with antitank mines.

The Iraqi Army units are ditching around near Baghdad and Kirkuk round the clock to resist the US Army.

Not sure, but my guess is if Iraq is going to be destroyed they want to make sure no one gets the oil.

Because they now feel (right or wrong) that war is inevitable so they have nothing to lose. The first rule of fighting a war on your own turf is deny the enemy access to your resources.

Well it's a logical approach to war really.

It's part of the Iraqi scorched earth policy.

Once they enter major cities, watch how quick they demolish everything. Similar to the plans that Hitler had drawn up towards the end of WW2.

The British had very similar plans should we have suffered land invasion during WWII, and I am sure the tactic dates back much further.

Well, the thing is, I think this just shows how little regard Saddam has for his people. Because he will be gone and a new government in place and the people of Iraq will still be suffering for this. I think he knows he's going down and going down fast and doesn't really care what happens to Iraq. His agenda doesn't now and never has really had anything to do with the Iraqi people except for what he could take from them.

Strange that Reuters, AP, USA Today says nothing about it---unless it got buried already?
