Hair Woes...
I had two questions I wanted to ask, and was going to make this post a whole two-for-one deal, but then Google answered one of my questions. My remaining question is...
What's the deal with hair wax? I bought some yesterday and have no idea how to apply it. I tried just doing it after my hair was dry. No luck - couldn't even move the hand through the hair. I was able to apply it after dampening my hair a bit, but was still a little disappointed. I was able to do very little sculpting/styling - which I'm not sure I like. Ordinarily I use hair gel, because I like the sharp, clean look of my hair when it is gelled, but I was looking for something stronger. So what is the purpose of hair wax? Why use it over a good, firm gel?
Thank you for your time, and I greatly appreciate those who answer my question - may god have mercy on your souls.
Darren: "I'm black?"
Elaine: "You're not?"
Darren: "No."
Elaine: "But YOU said we were an interracial couple!"
Darren: "Yeah. Because you're Hispanic."
Elaine: "I am?"
Darren: "You're not?"
Elaine: "No. Why would think I was Hispanic?"
Darren: "Your hair! Your last name is Benes!"
Elaine: "Well, I'm not."
Darren: "So.. we're just a couple of white people?"
Elaine: "I guess so...... Sooo.. do you want to go to the gap?"
Darren: "Sure."

I have no idea why a man feels the need to use anything in his hair besides a comb, so I can't answer your question...sorry!
Besides, I barely have a need for a comb, much less anything to tame these little stragglers! Down boys! Get back in place!

Well, for several reasons. Unless I get my head completely shaved, I am left to deal with poofy hair. Which is litterly OVER poofy. I don't know why the hair is poofy, I don't ask. All I know is that it's very, very poofy hair. So if I have nothing in it, I'm going to look like a freakin' idiot.
When I wake up in the morning, I have a preparation routine. It's a relatively sequential process that focuses on hygiene and aesthetic presentation. I do this mostly for my inner self, as I am a strong believer in the idea that projecting yourself with some style, as well as some aesthetic class speaks a lot about your character. Not only that, once I've gone through my routine - I feel ready to take on the day. I really cannot imagine getting up and not doing it - because I would feel tired and unmotivated all day long.
I don't really see how it's relevant how I don't fall into the category of men who wake up, do a half @$$ed job of brushing their teeth, throw on a baseball cap and go out in public. If that's how they want to project themselves to the rest of the world, that's fine by me - but I'll be damned if I leave the house unprepared.
Call it a little crazy - hell, even call it a little effeminate. All I know is that I feel good, I look good - and those who are around me APPRECIATE the effort I put into my personal preparation everyday, because they're quick to tell me.
That's my $0.02 on the issue.

I dont even use a comb, I havent for the last 5 or so years. Redkens' Water Wax is awesome. Its extremly clean. It washs out in a heartbeat and is really easy to work w/. Just take a dab or 2 in your hand and smear around your head and pull, shape and what not and your good to go.

I don't think wax holds as well as gel and after a while your hair just looks plain old greasy after your body heat melts the wax.
I don't like it. I does not give the same look or hold as a good gel.

I found a way to deal with my flyaway hair, grow it long and put it in a ponytail.

Are you talking about pomade? You should just be able to rub wax in your hands or heat with a hairdryer for a couple of minutes to soften it.
I used to use Royal Crown pomade all the time, nothing could move your hair with that stuff in. Well it could be moved, but then it would snap right back in place for instance in a heavy wind.
Redfury, I used hairproducts just to mess around a little with my hair while I still have it. I used to make it up 50's style pomps or just slicked back in different fashions and there was no way I could have done it without my RC or Brylcreem (not as great control but a nice smell imo). As long as it didn't take more than a minute it's fun to do.
No hair products for me these days though. It's like why guys try different facial hair cuts, you got all this junk sitting here not being used and want to add a little bit of fun to your routine.
