Anime vs. Real Life

hey yall. i was wondering. first off, asian people typically have, for lack of a better word, squinty or narrow eyes, right?(sorry for the stereotype). most anime is made in japan. why then do most characters in anime have HUGE eyes? just thought it was an interesting question...

Also take not that many anime people are caucasian, not asian. Hmmm........

Some sources tell me that it's an odd *BAM* baleted. (yeah....whatever). Other sources tell me the artists do it for reasons of ink/laziness/not-making-everyone-look-like-the-same-guy-on-the-streets-in-japan/etc.

Oh, and for further explenation for those who do not know what anime is, visit this humoruos explanation:

I would post a link for Somethingawful's anime guide, but that has cursing and bad banners. Do a google for it if you really want to see.

I have a theory that the big eyes in anime stems from children animes. Anyone else notice how babies and toddlers respond better if you open your mouth and eyes wide?

Maybe thats why?

i could be of the boil?!

<------ You have come to the right place, check the title.

According to most artists, the large eyes are supposed to signify the supposed innocence of the characters in their early years of life. Now take into consideration that young in anime is anyone under 30, or is that 3000 for some of the more out there series.

For a stark contrast to the phenomenon, watch Ghost in the Shell. All characters are intended to be further in age and certainly not innocent in any way imaginable, thus the facial animation is more true to life as expected. Only at the end of the first movie does the large eyes play into the scenes, as Motoko is transfer to the body of a young girl.

asian fetish for caucasians

Watching a little too much hentai lately?

ummm....err....hey, heh-heh....

Actually no, I had seen that somewhere but ya, I about started crying with laughter after seeing it. I posted it here as a 'what we know it ISN'T', as I'm very sure Ken could tell you. Right Ken?

I had heard that about the eyes, but I have seen big eyes on just about every character in anime (well, 85% anyway) so I guess it didn't make sense. But there are 'realistic' animes out there. GiTS is one. Gundam is another (teh first one).

So ya, okay.....

Somebody answer me this... what is the fascination with anime?!
To ME it looks terrible, the speech rarely matches up with the lips on the cartoon.. and overall just looks/feels CHEEEEESY.. I don't get why its the latest craze
I grew up watching cartoons like everybody else, and could still easily sit down to a show of scoobie doo .. but anime.. no way!
I just don't understand it
