My new baby
(pic isn't of mine but it's just like it)
It's a Blue Crown Conure named Zoey. It's just like the bird on the movie Paulie. He/she is 6 months old and can already say about a dozen phrases. It likes to sit on my shoulder when I'm at the computer, kiss me on the cheek, and ask "Whatcha Doin'?". Birds are cool! With the conure, a German Shepherd, 2 cats, a Norwegian Dwarf rabbit, and 2 tanks of fish I have quite a zoo going. |

The only way to sex a bird like this is with surgery or a dna test. The males supposedly have more white around their eyes, but I don't have anything to compare it too. One of the nice things about this bird is it doesn't squawk much, unless the kids are yelling or the dog is barking.

Is that a hand-raised bird? They're a lot more sociable than those caught in the wild, like our Blue-fronted Amazon Carmen -- she's a one-woman bird, and I'm not that woman. (Or any other woman, I hasten to add.)

Zoey was hand raised by a local woman who had a pair that mated.

Maintenance is low. You either have a well bird or a dead bird, so your vet bills are negligible. However, they do last a long time, so you may have to make provisions for them in your will.
