"At least four drug-related Web sites targeted by the Justice Department--PipesForYou.com, ColorChangingGlass.com, 420now.com, and OmniLounge.com--now sport government messages. The text says: "By application of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Web site you are attempting to visit has been restrained by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania."

Federal law prohibits selling any product that is "primarily intended" for use with illegal drugs, including water pipes, roach clips and small spoons used with cocaine."

Are they gonna go after all the head shop and places that sell pipes and rolling papers next? I don't know maybe those sites were not smart enough to say their products were for tobacco use.

iSoNews.com is still up but guess who owns it now.JUSTICE2.USDOJ.GOV And guess who now owns the pipe sites too. NS.PIPEDREAMS.DEA.GOV

It's a bad thing IMO.

It's good if the government finds a way to make money on the deal. Why make an announcement? Just keep collecting money until people complain, then bust 'em!

BTW, Chuckiechan gets an award for the most creative spelling of millennium.

Question is will it do any good? Probably not. It'll make the warez scene go farther underground for a while...that's about it. And it's not like isonews.com was the only site that participated in these kind of activities...there are others. They just haven't been caught yet.

The DoJ has seized the domain names, but it doesn't seem to have seized the IP addresses. 66.201.243.170 still gets you to the ISONEWS site, for example. (I'm not giving anything away here; that's in the ZDNet story.)

and Copyright

I am not to worried about it, after all do you think most warez and other copyrighted material is availible from HTTP?

They went after the head shops as well. I think that this domain deal is a byproduct of that.

I don't see the connection between the Copyright act and drugs. I get the copyright bust. But I guess the act allows web sites to be shut down for selling illegal materials. I'm fine with that, but I don't see the legal side of it. Sales no, web site = free speech. Why wouldn't they be served with a standard search warrant at their place of business for possession of drug paraphernalia? The domain is just a virtual storefront. The stuff is stored somewhere.
