Beating speeding tickets 101

I remember msn had the same article last year, its back up again
http://moneycentral.msn.com/articles...cial=insurance
Lotsa good tips, definitely worth the read:
Quote:
When asked if you know why you were stopped, do not commit yourself. Just say something like, "I'm not sure." If the officer says you were speeding, respond with, "I see," or say nothing. Silence doesn't equal an admission of guilt, nor does signing the ticket. You are simply acknowledging receipt of a copy of the ticket.

Admit nothing, deny everything, and demand proof!

Plus, when I get to court, I always plead nolo contendre ("no contest") This means, "While I do not contest the FACT of the ticket, here is an explanation for what happened..."

Then I stand there and BS my brains out....and the poor judge is vainly trying to make sense of the story (and whenever he stops me and tries to sum it up--and understand--that's when I add something else; i.e., "Well, sort of, your honor, except that...." )

Your job is to make sure the story never makes any sense, but still sounds fairly plausible!

The point is, you never get to the end of the explanation... there's just too much to it. See? Meanwhile, the judge has a case load, and wishes to get you outta there!

It works every time! I get at least one ticket a year--and they have NEVER found me guilty! EVER!!

A plea of nolo contendre is not a guilty plea---I've watched these poor dumb guys say "Guilty, with an explanation!" All that means is, the judge listens to your cockamamie story, then finds you guilty!

A plea of "Not Guilty" only earns you another court date, where the officer has to come in, and then it's you against the cop, and guess who the court will believe? Yep.

This information is for my TechIMO friends only. Safeguard it and see that it doesn't leave these boards. The future of our Traffic Court System may depend on it.

Well it depends on who is going to court to fight the ticket. Obviously age/race/creed matters...
The cops around here NEVER pull over an older driver no matter how reckless they are. (Unless they are drunk)
If I were to go to court to fight a ticket, chances are he's going to tell me to STFU and pay the ticket..

Actually, Mike, that isn't true.

Reason I say that, is that hizzoner cannot do that. Your day in court is just that, sacrosanct.

Females get so lucky, for the most part they cry and get off some lighter offences. I had to fight my last ticket, they dropped the charges (following too close) since I mention the officer was stationary and could not see anything but an institaneous view of what had happened. Always talk the the prosecutor first, I had mine withdrawn and didn't even have to see the judge, but I stayed just to make sure, you know

On my one ticket back when I was 16.. I was going a little over the speed limit

The cop did a U-Turn on the highway, and pulled me over..
The first words out of her mouth were...
"WHAT DO YOU GOT YOUR HEAD UP YOUR.. well you know.. OR SOMETHING?!?!?!"

Well... actually ma'am
Yep.. I paid for a few years on that one
