It has been called to my attention (see OuTpaTienT's remark below) that there's a naughty word in the translation. I hadn't noticed; it flashed by pretty fast. But it's a consideration.

I'll bet it all started when some hilarious-type person realized that the Japanese word for soy sauce (shoyu) sounds like the English phrase, "show you"....so then they had "Show me/show you"....

With a side-splitter like THAT, I figure they had no alternative but to create a bodybuilder/wrestler/karate dude with a strange fish head who shoots soy sauce out of his ear!

They also got from "Kikkoman" to "Kicko-Man", hence all the kickboxing. (That's about the level I'd achieve if I tried to be cute in, say, French.)
