Energy Secretary will not release reserves

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/....ap/index.html

This doesn't really bother me, but then, I'm not one of those gas-guzzling, terrorist-supporting SUV owners (j/k).

He is right as well. Those reserves should remain inactive until after rationing is in place and if we can not acquire fuel oil from other countries. That reserve is a strategic reserve and should only be used in dire emergencies. IMO

We get so much oil now from South America and former Soviet states that the situation is not as worrisome as 1990-91

By the time there will be alternate fuel sourses. Squirreling () away oil is economically a poor idea.

The money for that oil was spent years ago.

Economically the strategic reserve is strictly for emergencies.

Imagine if all oil reserves were cut off from South America and former Soviet and middle east. The country would be dead. This buffer offers the ability to weather such a storm through rationing and maintaining critical industries. This would only take long enough to start drilling in alaska

My bad. I misread it. I thought reserves as in crude oil reserves still not pumped up. You'all are talking of oil already pumped up and in like barrels or wahtever they store it in.

Yeah. OK, its a good idea. Even the peeple should stock up on gas by keeping tanks full in house/car just in case there are problems.

Can't hurt to errr....squirrel away gas.

We should start refilling old wells and salt caverns when the war is over and the price of oil falls through the floor. Good way to spend the surplus when I comes back...

Then we'll have all of the oil..

shahani Been there seen that. It's in a bunch of old salt mines, salt domes right next to where they grow all the tabasco peppers. Ever wonder why those peppers are so hott.
