Presidents

I keep seeing on other boards, stuff like "I voted for Gore but I'm sure glad Bush is in right now......Gore would be horrible"........what does that mean????

I dunno.......I just think that if you're going to vote for a president, you better make sure he's going to be capable in ALL realms. Military/defense is a BIG thing for America, quite important.

Venting.

I don't think either one of them was or is fit to run the country. Bush gave (read) a couple of great speeches after 9/11 and all of a sudden he's the best thing since sliced bread. I didn't vote for a president, and I stand by my decision.

Bush has gotten lots of good press after Sept. 11th but I think any president would have done the same thing. Bush has also been on the wrong side of several issues. Namely:

-pledging $40B to rebuild NY but renegging on it. He now said he'll give $11B. (I work for the Subway system and it will cost $5B alone to rebuild the 3 buried stations and the mile of track.)

-favoring an economic stimulus package that refunds corporations for the alternate minimum tax retroactively to the begining of time. Economists don't think this will stimulate the economy. A better way is to give aid to people who were hurt by Sept. 11th and those in lower-wage catagories who spend what they get (e.g. stimulus).

-favoring intrusive government policies and military tribunals that make a joke of our judicial system. Even the conservative republican Sen. Spector is against this.

-being soft on the Palestinians. Somehow, it's ok for the U.S. to hunt down and kill Bin Laden but when the Israeli's do the same to known Palestian terrorist leaders the Bush Admin. complains. Stating that there should be a Palestinian state was a mistake.

Wart those people are idiots. I still don't like or trust Bush. Seems to me he will just use 9/11 to take away a bunch of our rights since so many people have been distracted.

I'm not American, but the US is such a hypocritical country.

For example. It's okay to go to Afghanistan and destroy the country. It's okay to establish proxy governments to carry out horrendous crimes and wage war. But when other countries wish to arrest criminals who were sponsored by the US in the past, it's a no go.

By the way, did everyone know that the USA has been condemned by the World Court for terrorism? It all stems from the invasion into Nicaragua to capture Manuel Noriega, and the US war against Nicaragua. During this event thousands of Nicaraguans were killed. Fair??? I think not. Terrorism?? Debatable. Wrong? Very.

Don't try telling anyone for a second that the United States is innocent. Far from it. The US is just as guilty of terrorism as any other organization. They just call it counter-terrorism. Hypocrisy.

By the way, Ralph Nader should be president. It would make it a hell of a lot easier for me to breathe up here. Stupid american companies polluting the air.

I definitly realize that the US was funding Osama Bin Laden during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 80's. I'm just stating that the US is extremely hypocritical when it comes to the topic of terrorism.

By the way, the pollution is much worse during the summer. I have bad asthma, so smoggy days literally hurt. Southern Ontario is a really ugly place in terms of air quality during August and September.

In reply to club_med's analogy. The Israeli's never targeted innocent civilians. They targeted British soldiers only. This is not the 'same exact thing' as what the Palestinian do (i.e. blow up buses of school children, suicide bomb inside family restaurants, machine gun crowds of bystanders, etc.)

Second, regarding Palestinian rights, even though Palestinians are 2nd class citizens in Israel, they enjoy more rights than in any Arab country. (Let a Palestinian woman try to get a drivers license in Saudia Arabia.) The reason they are 2nd class citizens in the 1st place is that, for the most part, they are hostile to the meer existance of Israel.

BTW, there is a palestinian homeland. It is called Jordan.
