How your lottery dollar is spent (Cali)

Listed in %'s:

2.8 = game costs
3.6 = operating expenses
6.8 = retailer commissions & bonuses
34.9 = contributions to public education
51.9 = prizes awarded to winners

I wonder how much of that 51.9 cents goes to the gov't in the form of taxes?

If typical, 50% of that 51.9 cents will be collected by the Gov't in the form of taxes.

34% goes to the school system?
That was the promise of the Ca lottery system when it was implemented, it was going to hopefully resurect the mess we have---some teacher friends I know have left the state it sucks so much...
A friend of mine used to FLIP because he had to budget $$$ yearly to purchase basic supplies for his wifes classes---all she saw was carpeting and air conditioning in the administrative offices---they bailed to Washington state and are much more happy...

I take your point, TKOP, and what a shame that is.

It isn't just the criminal Administrators, though.

I know a woman who is the head Psychologist for the L.A. Unified School District. She talks about the parents of handicapped children who regularly sue the District for special 'considerations' for these unfortunate kids....

She cites $500K yearly awards to these families, seems the child needs an entire SPA plus a physical therapist...I said, well, that's gotta be the exception, right? Not the RULE, certainly...

Nope. Apparently there's a whole specialized bunch of lawyers who make their living seeking out these handicapped kids, and after convincing the parents that they DESERVE all this stuff, sue the school district for millions of $$$...the district settles on a half-million dollar payout to the families....

Oh, and the attorney gets 30%. Plus expenses.

Just one more example of what a PLAGUE of locusts (lawyers) our society is suffering from.

In PA, the lottery benefits senior citizens, presumably by subsidizing their trips to Atlantic City, where they can pee away their life savings (and their posterity's inheritance) to organized crime.

There is no state tax on California lottery winnings (yet). But you still pay federal.
