...HEAVY SNOW APPROACHING SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND FAR SOUTHWEST MISSOURI... ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR SUNDAY AND SUNDAY EVENING...

A POWERFUL WINTER STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPING OVER OKLAHOMA THIS MORNING WILL APPROACH EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND THE MISSOURI OZARKS DURING THE DAY TODAY. HEAVY SNOW HAS BEEN REPORTED OVER NORTHERN OKLAHOMA AND SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS THIS MORNING. THUNDER SNOW WAS REPORTED JUST SOUTH OF PONCA CITY OKLAHOMA AT 7 AM THIS MORNING...COMPLETE WITH CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES. SNOW WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST KANSAS AROUND 10 AM THIS MORNING...THEN OVERSPREAD FAR SOUTHWEST MISSOURI INCLUDING JOPLIN BETWEEN 10 AND 11 AM...AND SPRINGFIELD AROUND NOON. THE SNOW WILL BECOME VERY HEAVY LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING...WHEN SNOW COULD FALL AT THE RATE OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF TO FLURRIES FROM WEST TO EAST LATE THIS EVENING...LEAVING A SWATH OF 6 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.
Well I don't ever remember thunder snow storms This could be a whale of a storm sounds like.And I though winter was nearly over

It had been snowing almost an hour, no Lightning or thunder yet though

hey BC, so how much did you end up with?
I heard some thunder yesterday, but but didnt' see any lightning no fun! (it was raining, not snowing )

The last time we had a thunder snow storm, it was my first memory of one. It was in March and ended as an ice storm. We were without power for days. I still remember the onset of the storm and thinking "there's not supposed to be thunder when it snows." It was a doozie, that's for sure.

we wound up with around a foot in 6 hours Man it really snowed.Could hardly see the 4 way stop half a block away most of the day,Flakes the size of quarters. No thunder, or lightning though, but the schools are closed so the kids are happy
