RadioShack and an A-hole employee
hey yall. i was at radioshack this evening with my brother. i was showing my bro an lcd screen and saying how cool it was. i lightly touched the screen, pointing something onscreen out to my brother, and next thing i know, this employee comes up, keep in mind he is the perfect stereotype of computer nerd(not geek), and he gets all cocky like he is god and says in this cocky whiney voice "for future reference, if you touch an lcd screen you will probably end up paying for it..." and then walks off and refuses to provide service to me and doesnt even acknowledge that i am a customer. made me so freaking mad i could have decked him. any of you ever have anything like this happen at radioshack/ i have always known them to have good service until now. also, can LIGHTLY touching an lcd screen even damage it at all???
ps. i got my revenge i unplugged a laptop and told him i though i broke it and walked away laughing while he tried ctrl+alt+deleting for 5 minutes......

I get in arguements routinly with the local radio shack employees. Once I was in there for a cable for my DVD player with SPDIF audio output. Well, he didn't know what i meant and I told him its a single RCA jack as the output to which he sorta laughed and said"so it dosen't even have stereo output". Well that got me pissed off cause I had just explained that the audio output was digitally encoded and it went to my stereo where it was decoded and sent out to all the speakers. He still said there was no such thing, and then he involved his cohorts in idiocy, which of course agreed with him. That was until I grabbed a setup off the shelf next to me and showed them the jacks and also showed them in the spec book where it explained it.

There, that feels better.

Around here, the way people get interviewed for a job at the shack is... Potential Employee - "Duh, yeah I uh like radios, I have one at home..." Manager - "Great! You're hired!"
I've argued with radio shack employees over some of the simplest things, and even after I've given them proof,(one time I had to bring in an MCSE exam prep, just to prove what I was saying) they still just act like they knew that, but just said it differently than I did...
I've given up asking them for suggestions or advice, and just fo what I know, and buy the parts...

Oh come now---
I quietly move thru the store---already knowing what I need having checked the catalog online prior to my visit (usually calling first confirming my need to go there) if any interaction is needed I calmly ask for it---if it fails there is a 2nd store on the hill goin back to the house that only takes 10 seconds to pull into---sure beats driving 20 miles to Fry's Electronics for something simple...
You sure you 2 brothers wernt drawin attention to yourselves in some way?

I go in and always ask to speak to a Russian. They always seem to get it right for me...

| whats the difference exactly between a computer geek and computer nerd?
sorry to hear your problem. next time fire up fdisk and work the magic format command.
come to think of it maybe a geek would be carrying a windows start-up disk attached to his key chain. ha
