Anti-War Groups Planning Phone Campaign to Overwhelm White House, Congress

Quote:
A coalition of groups opposed to a U.S.-led war in Iraq will have supporters call, fax and e-mail the White House and Congress next week in an effort to overwhelm switchboards and catch the attention of political leaders.

......

Organizers of the "virtual march" on Washington are calling on supporters to call, fax or e-mail their two U.S. senators and the White House during business hours on Feb. 26.

......

Participants who register for the call-in campaign at the group's Web site will be directed to make their phone calls at specific times, Andrews said. The goal is to record one call per minute in every Senate office and at the White House.

Wouldn't this be the same as a DDoS attack on phones instead of on a server? Is it legal?

Yes, it is similar to a DDoS data communications attack, but according to my understanding, no laws are present that would block such an action for voice telecommunications. Curious situation from both a political and legal standpoint, as this is the first protest of its kind.

Well, the first planned protest of its kind. Phones have been flooded before, but by a bunch of individuals, not an organized group of sheep...I mean, people. I bet it will bring about new legislation or either some sort of protection from such an event, if it is successful. Let's hope it doesn't rain that day, because we all know what happens to liberals when it rains. They go and hide. (Rain is reported to have kept liberals from the poles in droves in the past)

I guess it's not that funny if I feel that I have to explain it beforehand.

Unfortunately, in this country you have the right to be a complete idiot. If, asked to, these people couldn't argue their point with any decent acceptable set of facts.

"Feel Gooders" and if they have their way they'll die that way wondering WHY.

I agree, Bill. They talk of oil or of colonization, while completely ignoring the whole WMD idea. They take Saddam's word at face value and disregard American evidence. Once Iraq is liberated, they will shut up, I hope.

Guaranteed- if we stopped talking about Iraq this instant, 99.999% of the people that are "so worried about the Iraqi people" would stop thinking of them or worrying about what they are going through under Saddam's regime (the torture and the lack of freedom and the perpetual fear). This is exactly what the hippies did during Vietnam. They cared about them only when it served their own purpose of being an anti-governmental issue. Once the war ended, they couldn't have cared less what happened to those poor Vietnamese.

Truly, I think they just like to hear themselves talk and like to feel important.

Not a new (or left-wing) notion, and perfectly legal.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Remember this one?

Nice to see that you have such an overwhelmingly positive view and great respect of my political position on this matter. ?!

Personally, I hope to bring facts to the table, and let others decide for themselves. My interpretation likely varies widely from yours, but that is what makes this country great, as we as citizens can agree to disagree on almost any topic.

For example, you can dig up mine and Dave's debate about these issues that occured a couple of weeks ago. We each got our differing points across in a clear and concise manner with nearly all statements accompied by facts from each side for the various topicalities. I highly respect Dave and his position regarding the politics we discussed, even though I certainly did not agree with his position on most topics we discussed over nearly a six hour period.

BTW, I am not in support of this organized phone-in, even with my so-called "liberal" beliefs. Though I would not call these people idiots, especially if they are smart enough to pull off this logistical nightmare.
