No sympathy strikes on US targets — MILF

Quote:
The separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said yesterday they will not stage sympathy attacks on US targets if Washington goes to war in Iraq.

"We will not participate (in sympathy attacks). We have a hands off policy insofar as the Iraq issue is concerned," MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu said.

Kabalu said fears that Islamic militants, including the MILF, would launch sympathy attacks are "baseless."

Local communist guerrillas earlier vowed to launch attacks against government forces to help out the beleaguered MILF rebels.

The New People’s Army (NPA), through its spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal, warned they would launch sympathy attacks if the United States carried out its threat to strike Iraq.

Notwithstanding their losses in which their stronghold in Pikit fell to government control last week, Kabalu said the MILF wanted "peaceful negotiations" to end the Iraq crisis.

The 12,000-strong MILF has been waging a 24-year insurgency in Mindanao.

I think these people are tricky and trying to mislead.

Can't be trusted.

In war-like situations each side should be wary of trusting the enemy.

Holds for the Moslems and for the US-led coalition. You can't trust them either.

I would be surprised if attacks are not attempted by some group. MILF is not that huge of a player. If they don't attack, then great. We still need to be vigilant to stop the others from successfully murdering Americans. Even those that have contempt for the America that gives them the freedom they are so quick to enjoy...

It is sad when a American has such contempt for their own nation. I agree with so many things you say, Shahani, but not your hate of American government. The military is the one group that gives you the freedom to say what you wish. It is truly sad that you use the mouth that was given freedom by millions of soldiers to try and tear down support for those fighting for the freedom you are so quick to take for granted.

In shahani's defense (maybe my first time defending him), I think he means that the enemy can't trust the US-led coalition. That makes sense because the bush administration has been spewing misinformation for over a year now, which is something that is necessary. You don't tell the world all that you know because you reveal how you obtained the information. So a country has to lie to protect it's national security and it's intelligence agencies.

But if shahani was implying that he doesn't trust the US, which I wouldn't have a hard time believing based on his recent posts, then he should of course be thwapped on the head.

reticent, I do not hate the US Government or the US Military. Quite the contrary. In fact I'd be very happy if one of my boys enlists.

However, what I don't like is a one-sided agrument supporting one group blindly. I try and balance things and put them in a perspective I see as fair and objective.

To say that the US Military is clean as snow is to be blind. There is a huge amount of corruption there. Did you miss the CNN Report this morning on rapes in the Air Force Academies being hushed up? Going on for 50 years.

So its not my hate or love for anything. I try and be impassionate and fair to all concerned. These Iraqis are gonna be very sneaky and tricky in the war.

You think the US military will be any less sneaky and tricky?

You don't have to be brutally honest and frank here as I am but ask your self and judge for your self.

[1] I don't like a one-sided argument either. I have looked at both sides very diligently, and in this instance have found little to no valid points to change my views.

[2] I never said they were perfect. But, I believe you are completely biased on this aspect. I have seen you speak about this several times. You talk of a few incidents where you think there might have been some impropriety, and use that to discount the entire military. To put it as bluntly as possible, that is completely wrong. I did not see the report on CNN, because I do not watch CNN (too liberal). I am well aware of what goes on at the academy and was not surprised to hear that. This happens at many colleges. How many times has a football player gotten away with rape at another school? Reading the CNN story makes me wish I had more of the Academy's side of the story. Not being far removed from college myself, I know how erroneous some of these accusations can be. A story like this would peak my interest, but I am objective enough to know that that story's 500 words is far from the entire story. If any of those women were actually raped, I believe the men should be discharged from the military and jailed.

[3] There's a difference between sneaking and confusing the enemy ont he battlefield and outright lying to get out of a treaty. There is not one single shred of evidence to say that the US has any other intentions but the liberation of the Iraqi people and the safety of American people. Saddam is a liar and Colin Powell proved it earlier this month.

I understand where you are coming from Shahani and thoughtful dissidence is a good thing. The only thing is that the thoughtfulness is missing from your dissidence. I think you see what you like and only listen to that. The US is an honorable country with a few unfortunate incidents that mar our otherwise perfect record. Iraq is a dishonorable nation with very very very few incidents that have marred their perfectly dishonorable record.

Has it occurred to anyone that because the military polices itself diligently that we get more than our fair share of bad press. Self inflicted PR wounds.
