Where's my JOB!

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 A.M. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting! his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.....AMERICA.....

Ask the CEO that moved all the jobs to the mentioned countries, the politician who relaxed financial regulations, and the banker who provided the capital to move the business.

And all the other Americans who still bought the products.

It's simple really. Most of those countries have cheaper labour costs (and/or no labour laws) which equals higher profits. Even if the company is "American", it's all always about the bottom line. If the product was made in USA, then profit margins would be very slim because of the higher wage rates and Unions would give them too much grief.

Besides, consumers are more price conscious than patriotic. Most people will buy the cheaper item. We as consumers have so many products to choose from because the world is now a global economy. I buy whatever product I feel suits my needs, regardless of where it's made or how much it costs.

Before anybody tells me that I should only "buy USA/CANADA", look around at your own belongings and tell me if everything (or even most things) you own are made in North America. I haven't looked at anything else, but I know 100% of my computer and peripherals were not made in North America.

The problem that I see with the global economy is the fact that it's next to impossible to buy local anymore. The majority of products are made in foreign countries by domestic corporations. Meanwhile the companies that made the conscious decision to keep their production facilities in the same country that they reside in are no longer in existence, or nearly bankrupt.

The only people that are benefitting from the relaxation and elimination of global trade barriers are those in the bastions of corporate North America, and to a very small extent, those who are working the factories in the developing world, earning next to nothing.

You know why all those jobs are in other countries?
Because we don't want to PAY for the product!

Which would you rather have, paying 80 dollars for a pair of good pants or 20?
North America has very high labor costs compared to 3rd world countries so to keep prices down (and to keep competitive with everybody else manufacturing in these countries) they almost have to move out of the country to stay in business.

Low Price = High demand..
americans are cheap, and we want our products for next to nothing

I'd disagree with that statement Vass. I personally think that the CEO's recognize that they can charge the same price for the item and increase their profits because they aren't paying the same amount in wages. Instead of making their profits from the consumer, they are now making them off the backs of their "employees" in the developing world.

It's just a mischievous way of making profits while keeping the price the same for the end consumer.
