Well, if I got a Rat ( which I won't ), I think I'd have to get a female ( I won't elaborate...do I have to?! ).
What can you do with a Rat anyway? Can't play fetch, can't watch them try to catch the laser light. Gotta search high and low for them if they get out of their cage... I'll stick with Cats and Dogs and Fish ( which are soothing to watch )

actually, i have played fetch with mine a couple of times. i roll a pingpong ball across the floor and he brings it back, not every time, but about half the time. also, i dont know about all rats, but mine, when he escapes from his cage, he immediatly tries to find me. one night he chewed a hole in the screen on his cage and i woke up with him sitting on my forehead! it was a little scary but he just wanted to be put back in his cage. they are really cool. i have had hamsters, gerbils, and my rat and i think the rat is a much better pet than either gerbil or hamster.

edit: im not saying dogs and cats arent cool, i love them too

I had a pet rat and she escaped probably 100+ times over her life...
Always came back though (usually found me in bed). They make great pets, but man, you've got to have a godlike enclosure building ability to keep them in the cage.
You can't have any moveable part within the rats standing distance or they will find a way to pry it open, no plastic parts whatsoever (even a perfectly smooth surface of plastic will get gnawed through).
So if you're thinking of a case window, it'd better be glass, cause plexi-glass wouldn't last but 1-3 weeks by my estimation.

Intresting idea cracked, but I'm with red on this one, no rats. I have a hampster that's nearly as big as my chihauhau He gets stuck in the tubes, the lazy *Censored*
If ya do route him through the PC, don't put the tubes near the CPU, he'll be cooked
