Just an aside BUT,

Aren't there two French Islands , St. Pierre and Maquillion (sp?), that are part of Metroplitan France just right off the coast of Canada?

I remember my history that they were nettlesome to the Allies (including Canada) by broadcasting pro-Vichy France propaganda to the Canadian mainland.

I think Churchill wanted to take them out, but the US was recognizing Vichy France ( a virtual Nazi Germany puppet) at that time to buy time and to avoid the complete take-over the rest of France..

Are they still French today, anybody know?

Yes, St-Pierre et Miquelon are still property of France.

While I have to agree that the photos are funny (you should see what we put up on ship ) and our military is sadly underfunded, there is a slight ray of light on the horizon-

We are, supposedly, going to be getting a hefty defense budget increase. (my fingers are crossed)

Also, about bases- BC has Aldergrove, it also has a Naval base in Victoria (Esquimalt) and a testing range in Nanoose. (which is used by us and the Americans)

Frankly, I think the Canadian government sucks, and something needs to be done about it. Will anything ever be done about it?

That's yet to be seen.

I recall viewing an assembly gathering one day. They may as well as had some 5th graders in there. I'm sure productivity would have gone up about 500%. Literally.
