Staying warm

I heat with wood,so even if the electricity goes out, we have heat in the house. But I know 2 people right now with broken furnaces, and are heating with electric heaters, but what happens if the electric goes out in a snow storm? We just light the oil lamps, and put more wood in the fire, but how do you stay warm if you depend on electricity to distribute heat throughout the house?

I have no idea. Wear 2 pairs of sweat pants?
That's why we will have a fireplace in the house we're building.

before we had a woodstove, we used a kerosene heater when the power went out. worked well too. but now we have a wonderful woodstove and it beats the heck out of kerosene when there is no power.

My home is TOTAL electric and we have a wood burning insert in the fireplace. Some years ago , during a severe ice storm, we went with out power four about four days..luckity the water wasn't cut off. Since the den a kitchen are connected , we all piled into the den and used the fireplace for heating and cooking. Sort off like being in the space station with gravity. Had a battery operated jam box and a monopoly board. We survived.

Find a hud quilt and several blankets and flannel sheets. Hide under the covers on your bed and sleep with 5 pounds of sheets and stuff on top of you. No heat's escaping now!!!

I wondered because a lot of houses around here are all electric with no plan for backup. But then we hardly ever loose power for more than a couple of hours. We don't have very harsh winters.I wondered how the northern part of the world survived.
