2 more weeks of school left and i am nothing but totally frusterated and want to throw my hands up in the air.

Last week emailed few times to my instructor that I am having problems iwth the Access program and things are NOT working as supppose to according to the book. (note: he already said the database samples and book is poorly designed)

Well I didn't get no response from him till yesterday and his only comment was, What version of Access are you using, well i replied said Access 2000 with the service packs and updates.

Not only that i have posted NUMEROUS questions on our web bulletin board for the class in hopes of getting some answers, NOT nary a response from ANY student! Sheesh.

Now i am consistantly stuck on page 253 of our book. What to do, short of bashing my computer and the book. I am not sure if this is a Access related problem or the book is just so screwed up that its not giving me the right instructions. IM in the forms section and working with command buttons for a search page. well the search page does not seach nor can i type in the boxes to let access know what to search for. I have tried numerous ways to get this function to work and it REFUSES!!!!

Even tying the sections to the query and/or tables that its to perform the search from. I dont' get it at all and im am FRUSTERATED BEYOND MEANS!

I think the worse of it is the lack of support and answers to my questions. I just sent off another email hopeing (still) that I may get some answers.

Not only that the expression builder in the program does not seem to function correctly cause when i follow the book it leaves this funny deal in the expressiong <<expr>> and it makes it crap out and so I delete the <<expr>> and it works fine altho the book says its suppose to be theere. Go figure. So I have to manaully type in all my expressions because the expression builder when used does not function correctly, I have stated this to the instructor and he just asked , what version are you using. Sheesh. no reponse as of yet.

I have so many things to do besides schooling and I am struggling to find a way to cordinate it all, cause homework needs to come first but when i am stuck on it for so long and putting in a minumum of 4 hours a day on the one class its really putting a dent in my day, (beginning of class term teacher said it will require a minumum of 1 hour per day to complete assignments) well duh, how about more like 4 hours per day and being stuck! Sheesh,

Im just ranting cause I am still STUCK! and i have no idea what to do. 2 weeks left. hopefully I'll get this assignment done and figured out to finishe the other 2 assignments and 3 practice assignments. I'll be quite happy when this class is finished.

Neostar is and more and

/rant mode off

Wow, sounds awful. I just want to sympathise with you.

Have you thought of posting problems on this site? There is a Databases section, and as long as they're fairly interesting I'm sure you'll get a response. I've done a little Access myself at a fairly basic level, learnt it from scratch which took absolutely ages, so I certainly wouldnt mind trying to help

Hope you pull through this.

i have always found it helps if at all possible tht you find out what version a particular text is using (in this case, what version of Access it is using to cite examples), and then try to use that matching version.

typically in the <<expr>> fields is either a column name or a variable...

Yes AN expression is supposed to be there, but not their <<expr>> thingie

Yeah their wizard is quite horrible

Myself I tend to prefer just typing in the SQL
I hate using their wizard, and I loathe using their GUI
Only time I use it is when I can't remember the column names, or I need access to put in its own retarded version of half-a$$ SQL.

PLEASE dont think that, Access SQL is true sql... really it doesn't suck that much!! LOL

if you want go to SQL view and post it up here and I'll try to take a look at it to see what seems to be missing.

Are you doing updating/deleting/selecting?
If its a report or a form, sorry can't help much I really dont like access LOL
SQL Server on the other hand is actually a pretty good product and has a very nice GUI (typical MS, although also typical is the EM (enterprise manager) crashes too much LOL)

no, im doing a form, (which i have deleted and started over about 20 times now) and not sure im making progress, but new problem with this one, when i go to view form it just shows a green background, (green selected) but my labels or unbound and search and cancel button won't show.

I think the book was done from the earlier version of access. not sure, im guessing on that. still haven't heard a response from teh teacher on that one.

if anyone is willing, im willing to zip up the database im working on and scan the two or three pages of the book and can take a look at it.

how can i get the sql to view in teh forms module? i only can get that in the queries module.

NeoStar

gotta go get my son now. my 4 hours are up. but will still keep working on it all day. till daughter gets home then I will have to abandon homework. till late tonight.

Neo, I didn't think you "heard" him so I'm repeating Strangerstill.

Many bright people never come here to this forum cause they are into tech support. Ask a mod to move your thread.
Good Luck

yeah, but then when you open it up, it wants to convert it again.

I hate MS versions that dont get along.

anyway, I only use others customer databases.
I dont have the patience to make them myself
