Computer Mainframe

Just got a look inside a casino's computer mainframe room,
Unreal, i am still in shock at what i saw...

4 Large cabinets FULL of gear that controls ALL aspects of the casino, security through to the sprinklers...
The cabints are kept cool by 4 gas cylinders (i could not see what they where, )

it was all in In one room that was about 5 degrees celcius
4 large plasma screens and about 22 lcd montors And around 40 desktop stations wich complete a network??????(as i was told)
Must have recently been upgraded they were using p4 processors
(as told)There are 350 desktop stations throughout the network.

I want one at home... It really was awe-inspiring..
The whole system is run by 2 gentleman, by the sounds of it they have there hands full most of the time..

One button "Lockdown" , wich seals it closed for no-one to come or go...The security was excellent...

Just to put a system like this together , you would have to be a genius.........

Well, I know some about this stuff.

Here in vegas, Greed Mart, err Wal Mart, uses IBM AS/400 Servers. So does the Casino Industry. These Servers., Weighing 300 Pounds on over, are heavy duty. About Half of it is Cooling fans, etc. The rest is filled with hard disks.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3402404531 (Example unit)

These are heavy duty systems, meant to take alot of abuse. Dish it on!

I saw a movie called Ocean's Eleven and they showed security similiar to what you say. They had computers monitoring even elevator shafts.

Its about a casino heist which is successful.

Fun movie.

Oh, I love that movie! They leave the ending sorta hanging though, don't they?!?

I was just wondering,
omc1jz... But how did you get into a casino's server room? Do you have connections? Or is it that their security isn't all that tight??

Yeh a friend of the family holds a high position at the casino and i kept hassling asking when they would show me around , I have not seen oceans 11 but will make it my next watch!!

No relaxing on the security , I still had to get my photo taken , sign a heap of paperwork and wear a picture of myself..

I wanted to have a look at the money room but did not have access to this part of the casino... Apparently there are only a couple of people who have ever been in the money room for safety or security reasons....

But i did see a network of vacuum tubes wich carry bundles of cash from the betting area to the main money counting area..
MMM if only i could redirect one of these tubes into my house..
Swwweeeeeettttt....

I was wondering what is the computing power of the IBM AS/400 Server in comparison with a p4 server?

They had there system in cases that had trays wich you could slide out , The cases were as tall as i were and had a glass door that closed ,it was the same shape/size as a standard fridge
It had gas cooling for each of the cases (but i dont think it was refrigerated like a fridge , it was not an ibm as400
but I think were some Big servers sitting around mabe they were as400's , I think the large cases were for processors for security cam network and other electronic activation/processing equipment.
There are a lot of tricky little gadgets around the place like touchpanel lighting where you can control ALL lighting ,and major archives of video footage files of all security kept on harddisk and also aircon/climate control and this i just what i saw in 3 hours.

What type of job and what type of training would you need to get into this field???
