Cigarrette Advertising Ban

Valentines Day in the UK and a cigarette advertising ban has come into effect. Recently the Welsh assembly also voted for a ban on smoking in public places. But at the moment the assembly does not have the power the enforce this but they have requested for the British government to legislate their decision. The F1 championship will also begin a complete ban on tobacco advertising within the sport.

It seems that alot of people are putting alot of time into banning tobacco, and from the looks of this and public opinion a ban on smoking in public may not be too far off. At the minute over here there is a smoking ban on public transport, most if not all work places (except in allowed rooms), cinemas.....etc

What do you think? Is a ban coming soon or will it be a gradual process if at all?

IMO being a non-smoker I would prefer a ban as I hate the habit. But people should have the freedom to do whatever they want in a public place. But whatever happens no doubt the vast fortunes of the tobacco companies will delay and fight it for some time.

I remember when California did that. People went nuts! They (smokers) were really up in arms. How could you ban smoking in bars? restaurants? I've since moved to a couple states not so strict with public smoking standards.. I smoke. I wish no one could smoke in a restaurant or a bar. I liked California's stand on smoking. If you have to smoke so much stay at home.

I don't smoke and I don't want to inhale someone elses smoke. I think it's a good thing that banning smoking in bars/restaurants/etc is being considered.

Six months without Tobacco. My lungs feel better than ever.

people who smoke will smoke anyway
people need to just quit whining and deal with it, banning ads and all that "truth" bs they have here will not do anything, its a waste of money, and if anything it will increase sales
banning smoking inside is ok, because that is different then telling them they shouldnt do something they want to and can do, its just a rule, like saying you need pants
i dont smoke, but you shouldnt stop someone from advertising, though at this point i doubt they need it
i thought the marlboro merchandise was awesome when i was a kid, because it is

smoke can linger for 2 or more hours after a person leaves the area. Do i want to inhale that? Hell no. i want to be healthy and live as long as i can. So say no to the cancer sticks!

And yet we eat meat, drink alcohol and do all other nasty stuff to ourselves......

I smoke, I don't drink, hate people who drink.... smokers don't kill people on the street.. drunk drivers do..

I have a right to smoke, you have a right not to breathe my smoke, you also have a right to drink... if you want me to stop smoking in front of you (not like I am going to anyway), then stop drinking in front of me.
