Hyperpyrexia
Anyone here familiar with it? Suffer with it? Have information to battle it? http://www.etsus.com/html/facialblushing.html
I've been suffering through an intense battle with it for as long as I can remember, and thankfully - I'm not that old.

Sorry xenon200, I don't really know much about it, but I thought I'd bump you back to the top.

Never actually seen a case of this, Xenon, but I've helped ppl with severe cases of Reynaud's and RSD before, which may be related, and they are also potentially debilitating conditions.
The best suggestion I can give is what the people I worked with before found, and that is some form of support group for people with the condition is the most useful thing you can do. They can supply more pertinent information about how to live with such a condition than most doctors.
If you are not currently in touch with such a group, that would be the way to go, IMO.
Cheers
Mick

I'm not overly familiar with Reynaud's or RSD, but the description of the condition outlined above matches me EXACTLY as is described.
Forming a support group wouldn't help. The help would be isolated to the support group, and that would be the extent of it, unfortunately.
It mainly affects me in situations where I am put on the spot (even something as simple as being asked to answer a simple question in a class setting, where I am familiar with the group and am confident in my response...), embarassed, basically put in *any* situation that isn't 101% comfortable. Although with deep concentration, I am relatively successful in coping with it in pre-determined situations. For example, I am not bad at public speaking - because I can concentrate before hand and prepare myself for what I should be able to expect.
The sad part is, is that I'm not antisocial, nor am I really shy (by choice, at least). Any associated anxiety or nervousness with this is simply that - associated. It comes when the "attack" itself starts, which usually takes two or three seconds to set in. :S
[edit] I checked out the description of Reynaud's & RSD.. Definately not the case here. What I suffer from has nothing to do with any sort of skin condition or sensitivity to temperature or physical environmental conditions.
Trust me, I would be the last one to "diagnose myself" without any actual medical training or expertise, but when comparing basically EVERYTHING on the list of symptoms for this, with what I experience - everything is pretty much an exact match.

Hi, Xenon,
The medical site I like (the Merck Library) insists that Hyperpyrexia is a form of Hyperthermia! Check this out:
I wish you the best of luck and health in this battle, Xenon.
Edit: Oddly, the link only goes to an 'error' message on the site, but you can still search it.

Thanks for the info, Knothead.
Something I've seem to notice during my research is that hyperpyrexia and "malignant hyperpyrexia" are two completely different things. The only commonality between them is simply the name.
Research has been relatively limited, as information on this is incredibly limited. Sources have duplicate information from other sites, etc. I was a little skeptical of the whole etsus.com, but the guy who specializes in this seems to be highly accredited. So, I'm really not too sure. I've contacted his group for more information, though.

I didn't mean for youi to [iu]start[/i] a support group; just find one!
There are a couple of online support forums I saw, xenon. Both related to the "facial blushing" links with hyperhydrosis. Both mention anxiety facial blushing quite frequently.
Also, what I meant with Reynaud's and RSD was not that they were related, but they are potentially debilitating conditions that support groups can help you cope with better.
Try here and here for starters of online support forums.
Cheers

Thanks for the links! I really appreciate it.
[edit] I've spent the last few hours looking over those sites, and looking over links that were featured on them, and have come to the conclusion that the ETS (Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathicotomy) is more than likely the only solution for me. What I have is not a psychological condition, and psychological treatment would not be of much, if any at all benefit.
The support groups mainly consisted of people complaining of the same or similiar condition I have. I found few suggestions or tips on how to stop it on your own, but rather a lot of stories on experiences of those who have had the ETS procedure performed - as it seems to be the only viable option for most. The procedure does have a few side effects, which has probably made about 5 to 10% of those who recieve it either regret it, or face moderate problems due to it. So the risk is definately present, and something to consider.
Alternatives to ETS are medications, but from what I have been reading - they are mostly ineffective. Besides that, I'm not really interested in altering the chemical composition of my body if there are other options available.
