is louder better?
I was wondering, pondering, digesting why guys/gals like myself, crank up the amps to almost earbleeding. I experimented by turning down volume while a new Pearl Jam cd was a spinnin!
Just wasn't the same. SOOoooooooo, why is louder better? At least to me. Just a ponderin
How loud do u techimoers keep it when nooooo one around?

to me music sounds better louder.. you can hear everything more clearly.. and it drowns out crap like cats, family, police chasing you...

yeah, i crank it up! but at the same time sound quality is most important to me. so if i turn it up and it just goes to crap (speakers can't handle it, have no clarity in the upper ranges, whatever), i turn it back down. for example i spent more on my front two component speakers (infinity kappa 5 1/2" 2-ways) than my sub (pioneer 500w 12") in my car!

I miss my music when working, an hour to go before going home time, I start thinking about 1st cd I'm going to pop in. must be some sort of escape, kinda like reading a good novel, only a really loud novel!
soothes the soul, so to speak!
i'm pretty happy with my logitech 560's. Probably better ones out there, but I get a lot a bang for the buck from these little guys!

I think there are all sorts of reasons loud music feels more satisfying. As already mentioned, for example, it more effectively drowns out the backround noise, making the music more immersive. Also, you experience the music with more than your ears, like when the bass rattles your ribcage...
Doesn't work with all kinds of music, tho', of course. I just tried Simon and Garfunkel's 'Feelin' Groovy' at 11 ('These go to eleven... That's one louder...'), and somehow it just didn't work... |

These just landed. Will play at 110db clear as glass!
12" Cerwin-Vega woofer, 6-1/2" mid + tweeter, (construction details on request) I really, really like these!

just out of curiosity, did you build a separate chamber for the sub and did you use a sealed design? (i've always built my own speaker boxes as well, although mine don't look near as good as yours). if i had a digital camara, i'd post my sub box in my car (it even has the Texas Tech logo for a speaker grill).
