As in...I get duped into buying ten thousand water filters, so the only way for me to get my money back is to sell them to you and then you have to sell them to your entire family and (soon to be ex-)friends, and so on.

Just a trying to keep up with all the lingo here.

Actually MLM is not illegal in and of itself. The so-called pyramid schemes where no goods change hands, are illegal in the main. MLM encompasses sales systems such as the notorious Amway distribution system, where you buy goods and on-sell them to others, so on down the tree. Theses schemes are legal by virue of the fact there is an actual product sold at each point. If money changed hands with no product, that would be illegal.

That's my understanding, anyway.
