Albright Admits Clinton Blew It on Bin Laden

On Sunday's Meet the Press, Tim Russert had former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as a guest and grilled her on Iraq and Osama bin Laden. She admits that the administration knew about bin Laden's departure from Sudan, but chose against apprehending him. Absolutely amazing, after the car bomb at the WTC and the embassy bombings in Africa, Clinton decides it is best that we let bin Laden disappear and reorganize. I love hearing his administration admit when they've blown it, unfortunately, this dereliction of duty cost us big. And to top it all off, she still totes the liberal line that containment is the best plan with Saddam even after 9/11 and even though she feels Saddam has to go. Remember, back in '98, the Clinton administration talked about military action, but then was satisfied with yet another UN resolution that Saddam wasn't going to obey anyway.
Hear Rush play Albright's responses to Russert's questions and comment on them here. <need Windows Media Player>

This is news? Clinton himself admitted he blew it. Believe me, I'm no fan of Slick Willy, but this is water under the bridge.

What makes it news is that the old administration is still out there touting how they tried to be tough on terror and did so much to curb it, and it's all a flat out lie. Like with North Korea, the two nuclear reactors that they were given in the carter/clinton deal is what enables them now to have the ability to turn more spent material into weapons grade plutonium or uranium. And the fact remains that these same liberals who denounce the war that may very well happen in Iraq were in favor of taking action in '98. But now we must wait and let France, Germany, and the UN appease Saddam, or give him a severance package along the lines of the ones CEO's get from a company filing for bankruptcy.

All politicians double talk. You think GWB will come clean and admit everything is things go sour in Iraq?

First he'll try and save himself. All politicians are like that from Clinton to Nixon to LBJ.

Maybe they shouldn't be. I don't think Bush will be. He's not the type to run from problems! I feel he is doing what HAS to be done not only to protect America in tirbulant times such as these, but to free Iraqs populas from Saddams rule.

I'm 100% behind George Bush!

I find it ironic that more often than not, its a republican party supporter that states it was the Clinton administration who was responsible for allowing Bin Laden to escape some years earlier.

Its ironic in the sense that they are perfectly willing to blame the Clinton administration for allowing him to escape, while intentionally mis-leading people to believe that he never tried to prevent it, but aren't willing to take responsibility for the previous republican administration that helped to create and empower the Taliban and Bin Laden in the first place!

Its akin to blaming the janitor for a mess, when in fact, all he is possibly guilty of is failure to clean up a mess someone else created.

Here is a link to an article that details, chronologically, the history behind how we arrived at the point we are today. Written in October of 2001, some of the items mentioned in the article have changed (such as the FAA and checkpoint reforms at airports).

Keep in mind, I did not write this response to stir further controversy, or point fingers. It was simply to remind those of you that have a "holier-than-thou" attitude concerning your political party, that its not wise to throw stones while inside your glass house.

You sure don't hear GWB utter the words "Osama bin Laden" much anymore. Everything is "Saddam" and "al Qaeda". It's as if he doesn't want to draw attention to the fact they couldn't get him, are even draw attention from that fact.

Here's a new article about a reported possible new bin Laden message... http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/...rap/index.html
