1. September 10, 1964
2. Grew up in the midwest. Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin. Probably 90% in Iowa.
3. Several people greatly influenced my life. My parents, my friends parents, my best friends, kindergarden teacher (yeah, I still remember her), high school biology teacher, athletic coaches, past girlfriends, aunts/uncles/grandparents, etc.
4. First "steady" job I remember was as a dishwasher at a country club. I was 14, worked 20-30 hours a week.
5. Associate Arts degree, Bachelors degree in Business, Certified computer engineer, Incomplete Masters degree in Telecommunications Management.
6. Death(s) of close friends, my mother being diagnosed with a life threatening illness and requiring a transplant (pending), birth of my daughter, car/motorcycle accidents that forced me to face my own mortality, graduating from college, landing a comfortable corporate job. The list could go on for ever.
7. Played a lot of sports with neighborhood kids, like baseball, football, frisbee. Rode bicycles, went fishing, built "forts" in the woods, swimming when warm enough. As I got older, so did some of the pursuits. Bicycles became motorcycles (first one when I was 13). Sports were now on organized teams/leagues. Fishing, swimming, golfing, etc. were limited to weekends or when I had time off of work.
8. Lots of books and literature has influenced me greatly, and continue to do so. One that sticks out I remember was called "The Ascent Of Man" by Jackob Bronowski. It was a text book btw for a class I had in junior college. Was based on a documentary by the same man, and later turned into a text book. Good reading, and summarized at a high enough level that it doesn't require an in-depth expertise on all the subject matter covered in order for you to understand it. The book and documentary touches on several areas as man evoloves, from the earliest known time to the present, and the influences that helped to shape who we are today.
9. I'm sure that there are some I don't recall. Generic things like football heros, movie stars, and so on. Typical kid stuff. Only one that really mattered though, and made me both a better person, and made me want to be more than I was as a man. It was my best friends father. He was captain of our city fire department. He also held a second full-time job as an electrician. Ex-marine, and what I still believe to be a perfect example of a great man. Generous and kind when appropriate, compassionate and fair, tough and firm when warranted, never bound by limitations from fear or self-doubt. A man with wisdom, a great teacher, and leader by example.
10. Lots of regrets about life. So many missed opportunites, things I know I could/should have done better (or not at all), times when looking back now I wished I hadn't taken the easy road, or had made better choices for myself.
Will PM you with my private contact information.
