Technically, NO - Insurance cost is more dependant on who the driver will be, rather than who the owner is.

When my son bought his car, we went through this. His Sable is fully his, and is titled to him solely. We wanted the ins to be his also.

BUT - as he was driving with a learners permit rather than a full license, the ins co could not list him as primary driver, and the license office wouldn't issue plates if the name on the ins doesn't match the title..

My ins agent had to get creative - Jeff is the policy OWNER, while I was the insured driver! Ins was cheap until he got his license!!

But since you'll probably be the primary driver, then YES - this will be more expensive than being listed as part-time on your parents vehicle. But that has little if anything to do with who legally owns it!

Always check with your agent before making a vehicle change!

Here's another thing we learned while going throught the process of Jeff getting his license which will likely apply to you as well.

Once licensed, a driver cannot be declared as "part-time" if the number of insured vehicles exceeds the number of drivers...

So if Mom & Dad each have a vehicle, you're rated as part-time. But as soon as a third vehicle enters the picture, you're a full time driver sutomatically, no matter what it is or who owns it!!

In our case, I felt this to be extremely unfair. I own a classic Pontiac, seldom driven but fully insured under a limited use policy.

But it still counts as a vehicle, therefore my kids have never been rated as "part-time"!
