Islamic postage stamp.

Started on Sept First of 2001, this stamp commemorates Islamic holidays.
here

I just found out about it because of an E-mail from a concerned friend, his E-mail SAID :

Subject: US Postage Service official comment on US holiday stamp with ARABIC calligraphy, honoring two Islamic holidays...

"The Eid stamp, which is being reissued with a new denomination, commemorates the two most important festivals in the Islamic calendar: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The "Eid mubarak" phrase featured in Islamic calligraphy on the stamp can be paraphrased "May your religious holiday be blessed." Thank you for your inquiry."

This is interesting since we cannot have the 10 commandments in our courthouses and public buildings. There can be no reference to the Bible or the Judeo-Christian ethic on which our country was founded, but we can honor Islam. By the way, where is the liberal communist ACLU now?

Islam has no part in American history or heritage. If this stamp bothers you, why not call your Post Office and complain to the Postmaster. Our Postmaster only offers them to Muslims, if they ask for them. He is a Christian, but he tells me that some
Postmasters who are not Christians offer them to everyone

Dear Fellow Patriotic Americans:

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military Barracks in Saudi Arabia.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE.
REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.
REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM
attacks.

Now the United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp.

I strongly urge you to REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp when purchasing your stamps at the post office. To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

I also strongly urge you to pass this along to every Patriotic AMERICAN you know, whether by e-mail or otherwise.

/END

I dont see how boycotting the stamp will help matters any. I personally think that America is for all people, NOT just christians, or jews, etc... I think the stamp is a good thing for the United States.

Of what use would boycotting the stamp be anyway? I dont know who MIGHT be offended by having an Islamic holiday stamp.

HEY, Actually ANY holiday that I can take off from work is a good day.

What do you think??

Vern

I agree. You cannot blame an entire religion/peoples for the acts of a few. By that standard, the world will condemn the US citizens/populations for the killings of civilians by US supported/sponsored goon squads in Palestine and elsewhere.

99% of Moslems/Arabs are decent law-abiding people, just like anyone. It's the 1% of fanatic, fundamentalist clerics who cause trouble in name of God.

These dudes should be executed.

First: we already have US Christmas stamps, some showing the Madonna and Child (not allowed on Post Office steps). That's about as religious as you can get. We also have Hanukkah stamps. I don't count Kwanzaa, which isn't a religious holiday, or Chinese New Year, because I don't know whether that's religious or not.

Second: the version of "Eid Mubarak", although one provided by the US Postal Service, is, as you can see, an interpretation, not a translation: "Blessed Holiday" is more like it. Nobody serious seems to object to "God Bless America," on all sorts of public occasions, and this is right in line with that.

Third: Mohamed Zakariya, an American convert to Islam, who designed the stamp, is one of the world's great Arabic calligraphers, a loyal American, an outspoken opponent of radical Islam, and a close personal friend of mine. I find the call to boycott the stamp bigoted and ignorant.

PS: I don't think much of having any religious holiday an official one, not even Christmas, but that's a long-lost cause.

Your friend needs to get back in bed and wake up on the other side and if that does not change their attitude then tell your friend to try waking up in a different country. This is America; land of the free not the repressors. Yes we do have the right to freedom of speech which unfortunately allows extreme right wing hate organizations to publish their hate but do you really want to be associated with them? Quite frankly, your friend's comments sound like something that would come from those types of organizations.

Those comments seem to reflect the attitude that it is all right to punish the many for the actions of a few. It is a small radical movement of Muslim’s that are responsible for those actions you mentioned not the whole faith. We can not judge the whole for the actions of a few. If we where to do that then there would be a lot of people in trouble like Christians, because of a radical few who are so extreme in their views on pro life that they bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors. Heck lets really broaden the scope, how about the entire white race because of the narrow-minded views and actions of a few who believe in white supremacy.

For everything there is a price.

AL

Modified to reflect no1_vern's friend.

Hi guys,

That is what I plan on doing Aldtech.

Thanks guys for letting me know your feelings. I was starting to feel a little persecuted myself for my "liberal, non-American feelings" - his words by the way.

Wow...I was just about to start taking heads, but you guys sorted it out already! Good for you all!

Okay, I'm de-fused, but let us remember:

It is not neccesarily "MUSLIMS"; it IS definitely terrorist criminals!

All criminals seek to justify their ugliness. These particular criminals wrap themselves in the Quoran. They claim that Allah demands these actions.

B********!!!! Don't be fooled, okay?

And as long as I'm on the soapbox, here's another thought:

If we are to honor the precepts that makes our country so great, then we must recognise that there are LOTS of different religions, and different ways of looking at eternity...and the totality of this, and the acceptance of it, is the thing that makes America so different, and so wonderful!

It takes away from, and negates, the American dream to point fingers at specific religions; it is not the religions, it is terrorist CRIMINALS!

Oh, dear...okay, /rant off.
