I think that monett is not behind the times, the people running the place are behind the times, maybe they figured if they forgot about the place it would go away

I stumbled across this website during a search on DSL, and I just had to register for this website so I could post here; I don't even know what this website is about yet.
I live in Monett, born and raised. I have been all over Europe and to Canada. I have lived in five states. I just moved back here from the greater Phoenix, AZ area. I have chosen to return here.
While living in Skinsizzle, AZ, I came to appreciate anew the fact that here in the midwest we have four seasons, and that in small, rural midwest towns, a traffic jam usually involves no more than 10 cars. Probably the most important difference I noticed was the people. Here, it has always been my experience that as long as you're basically a good person, people stay off your back and take you at face value. In the boomberg I just left, people are far too pre-occupied with whether or not you're doing things the same way they would if they were you.
I for one like living in an area where my closest neighbor is a half mile away. I like knowing that I can leave the blinds open and see trees, a large yard, and some wildlife, as opposed to an entire subdivision and the nearest house being six feet away from my own. I like more affordable houses and land. I like lower crime.
I for one like living in Monett, and would advise anyone who doesn't appreciate their hometown, wherever it may be, to think again, because if you think you'd be happier somewhere else, either you're right and you ought to stop your whining and go (and spare the locals all of the dumping on their home that you do), or you're wrong, and you still need to quit your whining and appreciate what you've got or you might find yourself living somewhere that's not as good, and regretting your choice.
If Monett is a podunk town, fine. I like podunk towns. Love it or leave it, I say.

Don't think I have a good reason . . . . let me ship my mother to live with you for a while . . . you can even have her live a couple miles from ya' . . . .
Bet ya'd be packin' and lookin' elsewhere within a year.
